Topic: Super Bowl L

And the winner is..........San Jose!!! Even though the media is reporting San Francisco was selected as the host for #50 in 2016 it's in name only since they won't be changing the 49ers name to Santa Clara. The team will be moving to the South Bay after this season which has many grumbling since the new stadium was awarded to Santa Clara. Downtown San Jose businesses will be the bigger winners than SF with their close proximity to the stadium, not to mention the hotels up the Peninsula, all in easier reach. SF will get it's share, but nothing like they would have if the York/DeBartolo family hadn't followed their greed instead of staying loyal to The City. I know we have an NFL Topic, but this isn't really about players & stats. Miami never stood a chance when they didn't approve funding to improve their stadium. This is really about how the league rewards a franchise for getting new stadiums built which inevitably cost the fans way more to attend. I know more than a few long time season ticketholders that have thrown in the towel mostly due to the price jump as well as traveling twice as far to see the games. It is nice that Levi's bought the naming rights when it was a foregone conclusion that Apple, Cisco, HP, or another Silicon Valley giant would put their name on it.

Bump you got a chuckle out of me on that one. Which paralell universe do you think that could actually happen in? Better yet which one could my Browns win one in?

Every Jet fan knows Joe Willie sold their soul to the devil for the one SB win. At least I was alive and saw it.

Haha, the Brownies haven't won the big one since Jim Brown's early retirement, pre-SB era.

Re: Super Bowl L

What you say is totally true. The city was informed another SB would never be in San Diego unless A NEW STADIUM WAS BUILT! City is broke, Chargers have a sweet deal that keeps blackouts in place unless the city coughs up the difference between a sellout and ticket sales. Voters could care less now and won't let a stadium be built on their nickle. Spanos family are sitting pretty on a low budget team with huge revenue flow.

That blackout rule seems to have gotten an exemption for the new Met Life Stadium here (I've been a Jet season ticket holder for years and yes, paid the PSL). I don't know if the exemption is by team or league wide now but the Jets - who do not sellout home games (shame on the ownership) any longer.

Rick, when the Niners vacate the 'Stick after this coming season Qualcom will be the second oldest NFL stadium next to Lambeau, which is never going away. Refusing to build a new stadium is the best way to lose your team and you can probably hear the vacuum suction noise coming from LA where a lot of the Charger fans commute in from.

We're well aware of that but the voters that hate pro sports outnumber the fans. San Diego is fitness city and there is a ton of stuff to do that is free all year in great weather. I think there is a huge penalty clause that Spanos would have to pay if he vacates so he'll stay until that contract is lapsed. Then LA can have them but so far all those deals have fallen through. LA fans may come to SD but the opposite won't happen so the fan base is kinda iffy when the business plan is looked at.

Don't take anything for granted when it comes to the NFL.

Re: Super Bowl L

Obviuosly this is a lead story on the Evening News. KPIX 5 the CBS affiliate sent a reporter to Santa Clara to cover the story from the stadium site which is next to Paramounts Great America amusement park. There's numerous hotels within walking distance so they checked about room reservations nearby and were informed that the NFL has locked up all the rooms in the area already. SF will actually fair pretty well since I've heard all the pre-game parties and events will be in the city.

OK, so I haven't been paying much attention to SF news lately. What is happening to Candlestick Park? Is it going away?

This coming season is the last one for the Niners @ the 'Stick. No doubt it will be imploded not long after that. They'll be selling seats and other pieces of it as souvenirs.
