Topic: Hendrix's People, Hell, and Angels album

I'm listening to this on Spotify right now.

Reading the reviews on Amazon is hilarious. People are jabbing the "New music" label from Hendrix because these songs have been out already on other "better produced" albums. The flip side is that these are unreleased cuts and not overly produced so we're getting more pure outtakes or sessions which Hendrix fans should deem as valuable for seeing the light of day.

People attacking the nay saying "new music" label are asking what those people were expecting as 'new' for someone who died 40 years ago? A U2 cover? A duet with Joe Bonamassa? It's sort of funny to read these Amazon reviews of the album.

To me, the album is vivid in tone and voice. It's enjoyable to listen to, and it sounds like a stripped down live everyone in a room feel with tape rolling. I'm glad it was released, and it's a cool little product.

I'm interested to hear others' thoughts on the album.

thanks Nic for the info and review. I have so much Hendrix already but will make room for another one. I don't understand all the negative comments that come out with each release, and the whining about the family just in it to make more money. The very same thing came up on Valleys of Neptune as I recall, which is a wonderful release and am so glad I got it anyway. It does beg the question, "Can one actually have too many Hendrix recordings?" I think not. wink

I forgot this came out... listening on Youtube, I agree with your assessment.  I like it more on first listen Burning Desire and Valleys of Neptue (both of which I did also like).  Sounds great to me - I like the more "stripped down" approach, but things like the horns on the one tune (Let Me Love You?) add enough spice to keep it interesting.  Can't have too much Hendrix.

Bought it last Tuesday...being a Hendrix nut I had to have it of course..
-I think it's good...especially if you bought the Target one which contained 2 extra tracks....Limited Vinyl as well was bought..:)

Are you talking Target the retail store, or is that just a name they assigned to a special version of the disc? I don't have it yet but would love to run to Target tomorrow and get it.

I picked it up at the retail store... think the on line had it as well....it was 11.99 on sale @ Target.

p/s Best Buy also had a special box set that gave you the Cd-regular version w/out the Target extra tracks, a Tee Shirt
and 6 guitar picks in a tin for 19.99 last Tuesday...like I said I'm still a  Hendrix nut...

For 11.99 (reg 12.99) Target was the deal for the tunes & Best Buy had the T shirt/picks...but it was only a Large T shirt...:(

I like what Ive heard so far a lot. Kramer's intent was not to overly produce it, but be true to the originals and let them speak for themselves as indications of the direction Hendrix was headed in, not colored by his own intepretation...even if that direction was a back to basics blues approach.

It was awesome indeed. Swap Jonny Lang for Buddy Guy and it was the lineup for several songs at the Doheny festival year before last. Another minute to let Mato step out more would have been great. I also had the same thought tonite I did last time...Aerosmith is such a waste of Brad Whitfords talent!

Will be picking this up for sure. As long as the releases are good (unlike that West Coast Seattle Boy bs) there's no such thing as too much Hendrix.
