Topic: Gah! The frustration!

Dammit - My Carol-Ann Triptik amp arrived all the way from the good old US of A yesterday...  Alan rewired it for local 240V specs and all...

...except...

I haven't got a cabinet at the moment, and my custom ordered one won't be here for another 4 weeks or so...

a whole month of looking at this thing perched on top of my MkIIC and not even being able to turn it ON...

Re: Gah! The frustration!

Surely you could find some speaker to test run it
and give it some burn-in time I would not wait 4 weeks

hope it sounds great..

There must be someone who could lend you a cab for a few days. Ask the store where you bought the cab from. Surely they could help out, after all you bought a cab from them.
Let us know what you think of the amp. I like mine best -- surprisingly -- with a 2x12 V30s cab.

I ordered the cab from a builder in Sydney - which is 3000km from where I live... big_smile ... which is a really small town literally on the edge of nowhere!  Might be hard to pop in and get a loaner cab! lol

I've got a Mesa Boogie DC-10 amp here as well, which is a 2x12 with Black Shadows in it.  Unfortunately, the speaker cable within the combo is way too short to extend outside the box to the Triptik head, otherwise I would try and run it through those speakers temporarily.

Any ideas on how I could extend that cable without resorting to a soldering iron?  Anyone had any luck running an extension cable on the existing speaker lead?

Re: Gah! The frustration!

Get a female-female ¼" adapter, then use your normal speaker cable.  http://www.fullcompass.com/product/231813.html

Hahaha Nic - as I mentioned above, I wanted to do that, but Mesa make the internal cable JUST long enough to go from the speakers to the jack in the top of the combo... hence my query about an extension cable. smile

wharris - That female/female adapter looks to be a go.  Will ANY adapter do?  Because I have heard horror stories from people who have used guitar cables as speaker cables, and I want to be sure that most solid adapters like will withstand the loads without smoking...

Re: Gah! The frustration!

I'd like them up back to back hmm would it be long enough then?

Re: Gah! The frustration!

Solid adapter is fine. I have used one to connect an attenuator to my tweed twin.

I would have tried this.

Re: Gah! The frustration!

As NPB said, back the head to the combo.

Correct, don't use guitar lead cable but Wharris said get some 1/4" jacks and standard speaker wire.
There has to be a car audio shop in your town that could make you 1 cable.

Re: Gah! The frustration!

Hey Devan, do you want to pm me your address and I'll rig one up and mail it to you.  I'm in Brisbane so it should only take a couple of days.

Re: Gah! The frustration!

Hey Everyone!

Thanks for the suggestions and offers!  The back to back option was certainly a good one, but it would have meant some rejigging of my music room and finding a table just high enough to support the Triptik head.

End of the day, I followed wharris' suggestion and went down to our local Jaycar Electronics store and bought a 1/4" female-female adapter, and hooked up my normal speaker cable, and away we went!

HUGE sounds out of this amp.  I am still trying to learn how to dial it in properly.

datam0nk3y - thank for you kind offer too!:)

Here's the current setup in my office/studio... The Triptik head is connected to the speakers in the DC-10 right at the bottom...
