Topic: new member tone question

First -great site! I've never been a member of one before!  I'm a new guitarist just had my second lesson!  I stumbled across I'D RATHER GO BLIND and was floored! I never heard of Joe Bonamassa before but went out and bought the album and thats all i've listened to since thankgiving over and over and over! Can anyone explain about that wonderful, raw powerful sound i hear on the song I'D RATHER GO BLIND and I'lL TAKE CARE OF YOU. I'm so sucked in to that sound i feel like a moth to a light. It lifts me up and then demands i listen again. Only time i dont listen is when my wife is in the car she sick of it. Thanks for any help and advice on how to be a great new member-sean

Re: new member tone question

Glad to have you buddy!  You should go to the introduction page and tell everybody about yourself, not a lot of people outside of the gear nuts really check this part of the forum out.
My advice is post daily and post often on the forum.  With guitars I suggest practicing 10 minutes a day every day for the first week and gradually increase your time from there depending on the soreness of your finger tips.  Remember its better to play every day for 10 minutes then it is to play for a half hour and miss a day of practice due to your finger hurting.
As far as suggestions on what to play, I'm teaching my 5 year old son and my 6 year old daughter Chromatic scale right now.  All that is is the notes played in order.  So if you have an low E string you would pick the open string, then fret the first fret which is F, then the next one to F#, and then next one to G, and the next note to G#.  This should be done with all four of your fingers and the notes should be picked clearly.  After that string move to the next string which is A and do the same to it and the remaining strings.  All Chromatic is is the descending notes on a scale.  The same 12 notes always descend the same way.  The scale is  C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B, C.  When you repeat a note you've reached a whole octave.  So depending on what string your on or what note your on you know what's above you and below you on the fret board.  Very long I'm sorry good luck and welcome to the forum!

Re: new member tone question

To be clear, I'd Rather Go Blind and I'll Take Care of You are on Beth Hart's album with Joe. If you wanna get deeper into Joe, you should hear his solo stuff.

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: new member tone question

Welcome!  Enjoy learning the guitar - if you stick with it and get over that initial hump of having to "manually" move your fingers, it's a really rewarding and "endless" instrument.  LIke AD3THREE said, consistent and frequent practice is best.

Definitely check out some of Joe's solo stuff - my favorite albums are Ballad of John Henry and Dust Bowl, but pretty much everything he does is great.

Re: new member tone question

Nuts and bolts of the equipment, if my memory is right, are Gibson les Paul- Gary rossington model and a Jim Kelley amp. Prob an aqua puss delay on some of the stuff but that is purely a guess.
