Topic: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

Hi all
I'm new here but love the chat on this forum! Really interesting stuff and not all biased to one brand of amp or guitar.
Just thought I'd chime in about my new amp. Don't now if anyone else uses the vintage modern but I have found it an awesome amp. Really great range of tones with a really classic vibe but with the added benefit of some up to date features like the effects loop and half-decent reverb. Love the kt66s and the growl on the high dynamic range is awesome going through my g12-65s in a custom 2x12.
My only wish was that they made the mid boost foot-switchable. I love it on for lead stuff on the high gain setting but it muddies up the low range setting with my Les Paul traditional.
Next stop is to pair it with my 1984 jcm800 4104 in a Joe-style attempt at amp blending!
Think I saw Joe use it on a Jools Hollamd show but I could be wrong.
Anyhow, if anyone else has any comments/opinions I'd love to hear them.
Cheers
Matt

Ps I know Joe thinks 50w Marshalls are blasphemous but I thought I'd throw this out there :-)

Hi Matt and welcome!  You'll love the gearheads on here.

Go over to the Introduction section and tell us about your playing and how you learned about Joe.

Enjoy!

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

Who cares what anyone thinks, 50 watts are great amps. I have a 2266 also. I don't play it much anymore but blends well with other Marshalls. I also have an old set of 4: g12/65s which are my favorite speaker as well. Never played an 800 but the standard DSLs will sound great with your amp too.

Also, the Vintage Moderns don't seem to gain a lot of popularity, and they can be a little difficult to dial in but the main thing about them (I think) is the volume controls. Those are where you're going to get your changes in sounds/tones. The EQ doesn't seem to affect the amp a whole lot.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

I agree they can be tricky to set. I found the secret to be leaving the eq at noon and just using the 2 gain controls like the 2 volumes on a channel- jumped plexi. They are so responsive to the guitar volume and playing style. Love it!
I don't quite know why they're overlooked. I find the more modern jvm range bewildering (and ugly) although I accept that they are massively versatile.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

I test drove a Gibson Firebird with that very same model Vintage Modern.  The sales guy asked me what I wanted to play through and he sat me down at that amp.  At first he set the volume down really low but after a second he came back and said "oh wait you can play" to which he turned me up louder then I've ever played at a store.  bare in mind my ear is a foot away from one of the speakers so it sound really f---ing good to me.  Didn't buy either but man I have to agree it was a killer amp.  I'm sure your Traditional thanks you every time you plug it in!  The JCM 800 is going to be boss with it.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

I certainly think it's a great value amp so I'm very happy.
Thanks for the aspirin update! Copy and Paste error? :-)
