Could not agree more.  I am pro gun but politics isn't needed for guitar talk.  BTW I got a Tarus Judge ;p

Nothing in this thread has gotten way off topic so relax. Its AD3THREE's thread and if something were to go too much of course he can decide to delete the topic. Otherwise, spare us all the overly sensitive feelings. BTW, nice purchase Arnold! And I should add that I did receive 3 packs of Ernie Balls, just to make sure I am keeping on topic wink

Re: Anybody got any new gear for Christmas?

Mine was a little bit of Christmas Money and some gig money as well.  Definitely needed something for home defense that wouldn't pass through walls since I've got young kids.

Re: Anybody got any new gear for Christmas?

I got a record player with a copy of Miles Davis' "Sketches of Spain" and EJ's "Tones". Dad and I both gifted ourselves a Tascam DP-24 to use when we don't want to lug a computer around to record smile. With some money I got from grandparents and other family friends, I think I'm going to pick up a Peavey Classic 50 so that I can finally have some usable clean tones!

Here is a pic of the chair:

This one is labelled as a 'Fretz' brand, but mine has a 'SoundArts' sticker on it - but essentially looks exactly the same.  I like that it is height adjustable, and also the back can be adjusted a little.  It is certainly more comfortable than it looks, and at first I felt that I was going to fall off the thing, but then I got used to it.

I tend to sit in in with my left leg up on the foot stand, and my right leg on the floor.  Because the chair is high, it feels natural - almost as if you are just leaning back against something.  I think it would be a great chair for live gigs etc. because it is really easy to hop in and out of, and as I said, I can sit on it for a long stretch of time without feeling like it is uncomfortable or cutting off circulation to my butt... smile

Re: Anybody got any new gear for Christmas?

^^ I think that would be a great chair for my office/music room. I can't play sitting in my office chair because of the arms. I bought it specifically for working at my desk so being useful for guitar'ing was not a prerequisite. Thought about picking up a stool but hence no back and certainly lacks comfort. Therefor I wouldn't be inclined to play for very long. What you have looks perfect and would probably tuck neatly out of sight next to a book shelf when not in use. Thanks for the heads up on those, Devan.

I too am an owner. I wasn't being "overly sensitive". I don't want to read any criticism of our second amendment, which can be prevented by not talking about it at all. I just come here to escape the controversy and read about guitars, amps and gear. That's it.

Thanks for the pic - the seat and backrest look a lot like the Roc-N-Soc drummers throne I'm using, but yours sits higher and has the footrest - VERY NICE! smile

Pretty disheartening.

Sorry guys I find it shocking too....why anyone would need 9mm mags & new guns etc for Xmas and thinks its ok is beyond me sad
Surely there must be some gun forums out there you can share this sad information with

Re: Anybody got any new gear for Christmas?

Ok, I wasn't gonna say anything else about it but seriously, relax people. Changing NGD to new gun day was a light hearted joke and no more off topic than Wambarro's post. Nobody has the right to NOT be offended. If someone says they got a new car, shirt, amp, gun whatever; fine. Nobody is pushing any politics. If someone had written they got a new car or something, nobody would read anymore into it.

- it is I believe a massive difference in culture, - that some of just do not get. - Problems are caused by intolerance of difference so those of us who are shocked need to respect that things are different over your side of the pond.

ps, no guitar gifts... just a acoustic drum kit, that is still in the garage waiting for the christmas tree to come down before it can go up. Couple of days time we will be off amp shopping for my son.

Re: Anybody got any new gear for Christmas?

^ 100% agree. Wish I had room for a drum kit. Thought about getting a cheap electronic kit to entertain myself at home but just don't have the room. If I were more of a serious drummer and ha the skills it would be a different story.

Re: Anybody got any new gear for Christmas?

Is this a drum thread now? smile  Didn't get any drum stuff for Christmas - but I did buy a drum kit as a present!

Wifey is an LPN, but going to school for her RN right now - and one of her classmates is a young single mother with a 5yo son.

Wifey and her friend get together fairly regularly for study sessions before tests, and that leaves me on "daddy duty" (plus extra boy) while they study - which I don't mind at all, actually.

The kid actually doesn't have too much "male influence" in his life as his dad isn't in his life much at all...

Anyways, the kid kinda likes guitars - but he LOVES my drum kit (1978 Slingerland with roto-toms) because it just so happens his (absent) father plays drums.

So, when he comes over I give him little mini-lessons (only so much a 5yo brain can handle at one time) - and I've given him drum sticks and a practice pad to take with him for going over rudiments.

That kinda drives his mom nuts, because now he's always playing, but she does appreciate the positive influence and dedication he's putting into it...

Anyways, the kid was asking for a drum kit for Christmas - but nursing school isn't cheap and his mom is definitely hurting as she works full-time, goes to school and then works hard at being a good mother too - so didn't look like that was going to happen.

Until, that is, Musician Friend's "Stupid Deal of the Day" was a $400 complete (beginner) drum kit for only $179 - so, I bought it and surprised the little guy.

His mother sent me video of him opening it Christmas morning and GOING COMPLETELY CRAZY - so it was definitely worth it.

Maybe I've just doomed him to a life of being the butt of "drummer jokes" - but that sure beats some of the alternatives - at least he'll get to hang out with musicians, right?! smile

Now does anybody want to hear about the gun I gave as a present?! tongue

Re: Anybody got any new gear for Christmas?

The thread title is new gear.  That can easily mean more than just guitars.  But seriously, how can you possibly be offended by what someone else got for Christmas that may not interest you?  Don't like guns, that's cool with me.  But if someone did get one, that does not make them a criminal or even a bad person.  Some people have more than one hobby.  Some people like me have way too many hobbies.  I could tell you about my comic books, action figures, die cast cars, CDs, garage signs, beer cans, watches, Coke promos, and more . . . but perhaps in another thread about what hobbies people here enjoy.  I think you will find plenty here own firearms too!

You know how it is - us old guys have to encourage the youngsters so we have new music to listen to when we're too old to make it ourselves. lol
