Topic: Cobalt Ernie Ball Slinkies...they're fantastic!

Anyone else tried these? I just put a set of 11-48 on my les paul. They are a fair bit clearer than the normal slinkies and feel a tad lighter. Chords seem to ring far better, each note can be heard a little better. Give them a bash if you haven't already. They're a little pricier but worth it me thinks. Got a set of 10s to stick on my strat tomorrow big_smile

been using them for a while now and truly love em!

I like them too, but they are expensive. Anyone have any idea whether they cause more fret wear?

Re: Cobalt Ernie Ball Slinkies...they're fantastic!

I wouldn't say I LOVE them, but I have certainly gotten used to them and like the tone.

For those that experience the 'stickiness' and rough feel when you first put them on - my advice is to persevere with them for a couple of weeks - it seems to take a while for a new set to 'bed down' to your hands and style of playing.

Make your decision after playing them for a while.

Re: Cobalt Ernie Ball Slinkies...they're fantastic!

As soon as I get rid of my GHS Boomers I got on sale, and my D'Addarios for my Fenders and the EB Regular Slinkys for my Gibsons... I'll be using Cobalts on all of my guitars. I tried them on two of my guitars and and preferred them to all of my other strings.

I like them a lot, but have found I'm breaking more since switching to the cobalts.

Re: Cobalt Ernie Ball Slinkies...they're fantastic!

There was a thread about these recently. I tried them, got a free pack. Didn't like them. They felt a little sticky to me, and something about them just didn't jive for my taste/feel.

However, I can attest to what Devan said, the stickiness DID go away after a while and they DID still sound fresh after 2 weeks or so, but personally I'd rather stick with regular strings. I don't want a set of strings to take a week to settle themselves down, I want them to feel good right away!

Maybe for a guitar that sits on stand or in case at home that doesn't get played daily, they would be a good choice as they DO stay fresh longer.

Re: Cobalt Ernie Ball Slinkies...they're fantastic!

I'm not one for trying new things.  I find something that works and works great and I stick with it.  I've ventured out with strings several times but I always like the GHS the best.  For a long time it was Ernie Ball but they lost me when I bought a couple of sets that the ball end came off of the plain strings on 3 or 4 sets.  Never complained just stopped using them.  That was after about 8 years of using them.  After that I bought some GHS and never looked back.  I think their quality is a little better...  Ernie Ball might have had a bad lot that day.  Who knows!  All I can say is I was pissed and now I'm not.

I feel like mine will eventually turn to rust and still sound brand new. Had cobalts on my LP since july... wiping before and after - still sound great.

Like guitars strings are a very personal choice. I never experienced the stickiness you refer too. I play my guitars daily for at least four hours so they get extensive use.

Re: Cobalt Ernie Ball Slinkies...they're fantastic!

Yeah I'm sure not everyone gets that feeling from them. I thought it was just in my head until I read others felt same thing. But really if everyone felt that, they probably wouldn't even be on the market! I suspect it's just my hands or skin that enebled them to come off in such a way, and the same for some other people. I do like that they keep their "new" sound much longer than other strings without being too bright to start with.
