Topic: WOW, this is a very different JB tone and I love it!

Figured everyone has seen this, but sheesh... this is totally awesome!  A bit more "hairy" than usual and I LOVE it!

and had not heard this arrangement before, and tell me he was not channeling some of his Koss influence here on the economy and feel.  I got goose bumps.  Wonder if it's the Trainwreck blended in that is making the audible difference.

also one of my favorite vocal performances of this song in a while.

And my vacation to SoCal was 2 weeks too soon, this was well worth the $12+ service charges and I was already 3,000 miles away

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

Re: WOW, this is a very different JB tone and I love it!

I too was wondering when these videos would ever appear since they filmed the whole thing. We were right at the railing, it was like having Joe play right in you own livingroom. He had the volume up past 11 that night.  Took a few days for the hearing to return to normal.  He was totally on fire that night. He seemed really excited to be back playing with his band after his summer vacation.

Excellent sound, but also great singing, too. I like Joe's vocal approach in this video, because it has a nice dynamic to it and he really plays with this dynamic - Joe, please do so more often!

Getting back to the guitar sound...well, it sounds very airy and open - love the uncompressed way of the sound, and I think the uncovered h-buckers really deliver the goods.

DAMN!!!!!!!

That's all I can say....

2009 Gibson Les Paul 1958 VOS (with black plastic)

I may be tone deaf, tone stupid whatever but will add a "wow" and a "damn son". That is incredible, it jumps on you and doesn't let up.

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Re: WOW, this is a very different JB tone and I love it!

Playing and singing - as always fantastic and love the arrangement on that.  Tone?  Mmm, jury's out - personally I thought Joe had nailed it already.  Just saying.

my thoughts exactly, specially on the vocals.  I will be honest, since the "Ballad of John Henry" record, his approach has not been my favorite; but then again it is a personal thing and all his records being on the blues charts... well something is working!  Just thought that this arrangement really nailed the dark, sad, nature of the tune.

Can't wait!! Been walking around with a huge grin ever since it became a reality!

Re: WOW, this is a very different JB tone and I love it!

I agree the tone is good but overall this performance didn't do it for me. The vocal arrangement in particular is not to my liking. For me the Royal Albert Hall version will always be the definitive performance of this song. I have played it more times than I could ever remember and the solo still sets the hairs on the back of my neck when I hear it. This performance did nothing for me and it's not pulling me back to play it again.
