Topic: wouldnt it be cool to see joe with a strat again !!

i know he has sold his soul to gibson  but i bet he still sees a strat from time to time and thinks wow!!

would live to see it used  for different songs and would really change and beak up the set nicely !
was watching his styles dvd and loved the tone from the strat he got as it wasnt,t thin a weedy sounding!
just smooth and classy !!

Re: wouldnt it be cool to see joe with a strat again !!

Can't see Joe with a Strat, it was funny seeing him with an SG......A Strat would be out of character, particularly since he had good reasons for laying it down in the first place.

I'd love to see it. Not necessarily a majority of the time, but more of a variety. To use a cooking analogy, the Les Paul is like beef and the Strat is like pork. Les Pauls have a richer, thicker tone and are better as a stand-alone entree with just salt/pepper. Strats have a thinner tone, and are a better pallet for different flavors and seasonings (ie: effects).

The sound of Goldie (and whatever effect that is/was on "I know where I belong") was to die for, and likely would not have sounded as good with the same effect used with a Les Paul. http://youtu.be/AzOVoSnchw4

I'm familiar with the circumstances that led to the departure from Fender, and don't blame Joe in the least for his decision at the time - but I think the point has very much been made now. It surely was Fender's loss and Gibson's gain.

I just miss the variety of tones and effects used from song to song in the early days. Joe has developed a signature sound/tone now (and a mighty fine tone it is) but it's fairly consistent from song to song when playing a Les Paul. Maybe there's room for more Strat material in the future?

Re: wouldnt it be cool to see joe with a strat again !!

I sure liked hearing him on the Jeff Beck strat on Prisoner from Dust Bowl, but he could have played a First Act and ripped that one.  In general, though, I like his LP-based tone better.  Variety is always nice, though.

Re: wouldnt it be cool to see joe with a strat again !!

Strat . . . . . pffft.  I don't miss it at all.  The Musicman handles the non-LP needs just fine for me.

Hi Stu, I think I read a bit about this, but what was the story about leaving Fender again?

GoldieGate! Man, that was years ago, I remember when it was happening!
lol

Last I heard, Joe is back to at lest a decent relationship with Fender. But there was a time when Joe wouldn't even let Carmine use a rag on stage that said Fender on it!

If you want to hear Joe play a Strat I'd get a copy of the "Machinehead Remachined" tribute to Deep Purple. I'm 99% sure he is using one on "Lazy". Which by the way he and Jimmy Barns did a great job covering. I'm proud to be a JB fan because he doesn't try to out play Blackmores version. He's just paying tribute to a guitar icon.

+1.... Yep Variety is the key in music and in life....:)

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: wouldnt it be cool to see joe with a strat again !!

I vote YES - I'd like to see Joe pick up a Strat or a Tele from time to time...

It's not that I dislike his LP tone - I love it, but I think 'mixing it up' will add some breadth and interest to the show.  In a similar way that I love the acoustic set as part of the show.  Just changes the pace and feel and keeps the whole thing seeming fresh from start to finish.

Re: wouldnt it be cool to see joe with a strat again !!

im good with Joe using whatever.....i like his LP tone but i also love the strat tones he gets.......he obviously still uses both fender guitars and amps in the studio on occasion not only for his solo stuff but for the beth hart stuff as well.

to me seeing Joe with the Music Mans and the Gibson Flying V and the Hollowbodys all look and sound great.

in other words....playing em all Joe....play em all!!!!!

What was that good reason? A personal feud with the Fender company? Bad sound couldn't be the reason ;-)
In my eyes, a player of Joe's format has to play Strats, too.
