Topic: Joe's New live rig???

Hi fellow fans,

Just wondering if anyone knows what Joe's new live consists of? Is it a new JB signature amp he's trying out as I have no idea what model they are?

Any news would be great.

Thanks

I don't know what has changed since though...

Re: Joe's New live rig???

I saw Joe last night.  He had a fender tweed, a victoria (I believe) and four half stacks with Marshall slant cabs. Three of the half stacks were definitely non master small script Marshalls.  I not sure about the other half stack head. (Category 5?)
He had also had a small white head sitting on top of the Marshalls.  Does anyone know what this white head is?

Re: Joe's New live rig???

He's using a DSL and s Super PA for most of the show. The white cabinet is a Diaz reverb unit.  He's got a great organic tone with this set-up.

Re: Joe's New live rig???

I have to admit I miss the jub i'm in love with that tone!

I was also at the Columbus, GA show. From my seats (5th row center stage) I noticed that none of the Marshalls appeared to be plugged into - they were on just nothing plugged into the front panel. The big box Marshall had the channels bridged but no input as well. Maybe the there is another amp behind the 4 half-stack setup that Joe is using?

=O sneaky!

Re: Joe's New live rig???

The Super PA head is " live" as is a DSL in a rack. The other heads are back ups. All cabs are roaring fully! The tweed twin and Vic sound great when he uses them.

Exactly my take from the Merrillville and Fort Wayne shows.

Re: Joe's New live rig???

This new "rig" has gotten several explanations thus far. We just need a video tour of it. Just seems to me its not as simple as I thought it was going to be with the addition of the fender and victoria and DSL in rack. I thought it was just going to be 2 heads running and 4 cabinets. The 2 other heads on cabinets as backups. Small rack with power conditioner and Palmer(s).

Not bit@#&ing, just curious!

Ah that makes perfect sense. Is the DSL a 50 watt model?

I did notice the the stage volume did seem lower than my previous shows - I think most of that is contributed to the fact the band is on IEM's now and there are no (or very few) monitors on stage.

The 'Fender' rig - twin and Vic sounded amazing! It was a really nice contrast of the Marshall rig. Joe has the rig of rigs IMHO.

Re: Joe's New live rig???

Could be his new Marshall Signature head inside the DSL box??

Re: Joe's New live rig???

i mean, why would he go through the trouble of changing his whole rig just go to a cheap, run of the mill DSL.  I mean, i like those amps fine, but JB is a bit of a gear "snob" (I mean this in the best possible way, seriously; if I could play half as well and be half as popular as JB I would do the same thing!!).  There has got to be something to this mystery.

Amp: Firebird Musical Amplifiers
Guitars:62 LP SG , 02 FB VII, JB FB I, 76 Electra Omega, 64 Firebird V, 73 LPC, 61 Custom Tele, 59 and 60 Melody Maker
Effects: Mythos Chupacabra, Strymon Deco/Flint

There's also something to be said about playing things that you can buy anywhere - the more boutique "special" things you have, the harder it is to replace if something breaks on the road.

Re: Joe's New live rig???

He must like the DSL because he used them with BCC as well. At least thats what I think. I remember reading a post a few years ago by Joe answering the question "if you only could have one amp what would it be"? Joe answered a DSL if I remember right. The point was if you couldn't afford much gear what would you buy.
I think Joe saw the DSL 100 in my picture and figured if I like them they must be good. Or not.

Pretty much what I thought too.

Re: Joe's New live rig???

Well all I can say is.  Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's not good.  The switch from EV to vintage Celestions and basket weave cabinets has required a different type of sound to start with.  The DSLs won't be cheap for long now that they discontinued the original version.  I still have the old rig in the truck.  I'm happy with the results and the simpler approach.  Makes me play better and more creatively.  Remember BB King uses a Lab Series L-5!  I bought mine mint for 250!

Hehe - the DSL's won't be cheap for long now that you're playing them live Joe! lol

After receiving your good advice from past posts, I now have a DSL100 running to a 1960A stereo cab twinned with a Bugera (yes I know, Bugera!) V55H head to get me a more Fender sound (they are great amps and cost much less than a Fender head).  I have to say the tone I get with my Lester is the best I've ever had from any guitar/amp combination in 35 years of playing.

I also have a Fender Blues Deville 4x10" which I can twin with the DSL and although I've not tried that combo yet I reckon it will sound sweet.
