Topic: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

Wow, What a night!! Awesome memories for sure!!! Not even sure how to start this review, so here goes!!

Well, first off, my fiance and I have traveled all over the place the last few years following Joe, so to see that he was going to be close to our hometown made us very happy - Very happy indeed! We ended up buying 10 tix back in April, the first 5 when the fan club presale took place, and again the exact second they went on sale to the general public, which landed us 5 seats in the front row - Well, we had always said we would take our kids if Joe came close by, so that was the plan, their first concert was going to be Joe, and boy has it been a long wait since April!! Now, my fiance and I did cheat a few times and saw him in Lexington KY and Columbus OH while waiting for the WV Show, so it made the waiting a little easier

The evening strated out with the meet&greet (Thank you Andy) - Each of the kids got to speak with Joe and he signed pictures for each of them - Joe was gracious enough to sign the fuzz face I brought with me, and I really appreciate that Joe!

The kids were so excited for the show to start, they apparently thought it started right after the M&G, which keep in mind, they are only ages 4,6, and 8 - so, we took them to dinner to kill some time before the show started - Once we got back to the venue, we went in and found our seats, which were amazing to say the least

When the lights dimmed, the kids got really excited, and we could see Joe standing over on the side of the stage while an accoustic song played - he then came out and played the accoustic set, which was awesome!! Once the electric part of the show started, it was like the place was on fire, the energy was intense once "Slow Train" kicked in, then into "Dust Bowl" which our 6 year old couldnt wait to hear - Our 4 year old couldnt sit still when he started playing "Whos Been Talking," which he calls "surf music" - lol - Im not 100% sure which songs our daughter enjoyed the most, but she sat there and just smiled and nodded along with the music throughout the show!

The entire show was amazing - Lets see, we had some special moments too - I took a drumstick to the head, and according to my fiance, it bounced about 3 rows back after it ricocheted off my head - the guy that caught it brought it up to us and said that I had earned it! lol - I was lucky enough to catch a pick Joe flipped to me right before "Just Got Paid" - After the encore songs, Rick brought out his set list and gave to our daughter - Carmine came over and shook each of the kids hands, as well as ours - After the lights came up, our daughter found that she had caught a guitar pick in her shirt, and hadnt even realized it was there!

The kids had a blast, and my fiance' and I were just so excited that they could be part of this - It really meant a lot to us for their first concert to be Joe!! They love his music just like we do!!

I cant wait to upload the camera, apparently she took 400+ pictures throughout the night!!

Thanks Joe for coming to Charleston and PLEASE make WV a regular stop on your upcoming tours!!

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

Fabulous review! The part about the drumstick is priceless!

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

Wow, what a way to start your kids being Joe fans.  Thanks for the review, I bet you are still smiling today.  You know I am from West Virginia originally and so happy that Joe got to see our beautiful Mountain State.  Well done on the review.

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

It was definitely the best all around performance I have seen by Joe & Co.  I had decided earlier in the year to skip this show, even though it was the closest to my hometown also.  My brother calls me earlier in the day and says that a teacher he works with had two extra tickets and wanted to know if I wanted them.  Of course I said absolutely and I asked later where they were and they ended up second row.  So needless to say I was pretty stoked about going.

Acoustic set at the start of the show was stellar.  Rest of the show was spot on Joe at his finest.  One thing I love about this band and watching them live is the obvious chemistry they have, especially on stage.  I don't think that Rick, Tal and Carmine get enough credit as such a strong backbone to Joe's blistering guitar work.  They are all masters of their craft.

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

b&t...What a wonderful story!! You put a huge smile on my face. NOTHING better than hearing about happy children. What memories for them wink I imagine a motorhome in your future with family vacations revolving around Joe shows. My dream! Thanks for sharing your story.
jspears..Thanks for your review too wink  Couldn't agree more about the band. Cathy

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

Yes Cathy, they had a blast!! But today, the show carried over!! lol - My 6 year old son had a dentist appointment, and on the way there, he asked if he did good, could we stop at the shoe store and look for new shoes - Most kids would have wanted a toy or a new video game, etc... for some reason, he wanted to look at shoes, so we agreed - Apparently, sitting in the front row last night gave him an eye level view of Joe's black Chuck Taylors, because thats what he found in the store, and he just had to have them because thats the shoes Joe was wearing!! lol

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

Great review, thanks for sharing your story!  Tal might have to start using nerf drum sticks, they can be dangerous!

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

What a great review. Priceless that your son wanted some Chuck Taylor's just like joe's!

Great review. How cool to take the kids at an early age and have it stick. They are spoiled for life now that the bar has been set so high. I indoctrinated all mine and they are big fans as well. big_smile

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

We were there and the show was *AMAZING!*    We would have loved to have got to go to the meet & greet...I asked around but didn't find out any details.  Maybe next time....at least we had excellent seats...front, left of center and I got a guitar pick!  I saw those drumsticks flying...LOL!  I loved Joe's story about going out for a ride and they ended up in St. Albans...it was funny!  Our drive down from Morgantown, the show and our night spent in Charleston was a lot of fun!  Thanks for a great show, Joe & Co.

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

If anyone has the set list from the Charleston show, could you post it?  I am having a hard time remembering what all he played given my state of awe.  My brother went with me.  He had never heard Joe before but left a believer.

Hi Rachel- I'm Joe's Street Team director and M&Gs can be earned by helping promote shows around your town and to your friends online.  Here's a link to the policy I posted- https://forum.jbonamassa.com/viewtopic.php?id=22652

b&t, glad to hear everything went well and the kids enjoyed the show. Too funny about the black Chucks! Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

Thank you, Andy!  I appreciate the link.  I have turned on so many people to Joe's music, that's for sure. When we are out, I will play his music...People will say, "who is this?"  I say "one of the best guitar players ever, Joe Bonamassa."  It's a good feeling to tell people about Joe.  I never knew of him until I caught his "Live from the Royal Albert Hall in London" show, which aired on PBS.  His performance blew me away.  I've been a die-hard fan, ever since then.

Hi rachel, so nice to meet you and have you here with us where you belong!  I am one of the multitudes introduced to Joe through PBS.  Genius marketing.  Have fun with all the other Bonamaniacs here!

I bet we know some of the same folks dude! My whole family is from Ashland KY! Glad you and your brother enjoyed the show!! I just hope Joe and company keep WV on their list!! Maybe the Paramount down your way would be cool too!! Not sure how many it seats, but its a cool place!

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

Thanks B&T!  I have a strong connection with the Paramount and have been able to get Chris Isaak here through suggestion of artists and Joe has been on the list every year.  They don't always understand that people will travel to see an artist vs. the older generation only going if it is in their backyard.  But maybe on the next tour.  I will keep after them.  I thought I had most of the set list in my head but thought there were a couple of lapses.  Thanks!  We probably do know some of the same folks, Ashland isn't that big!  haha.

Re: Charleston WV Review - 11/27/12

Hi Sally!  I was hooked after seeing Joe on PBS.  We tried to catch his show at the Carnegie Music Hall, but Jay's work schedule didn't allow us to go.  We finally saw him this past May at the Benedum and were blown away!  A week later, I purchased our tickets for the Charleston show.  I don't see him coming to Pittsburgh in Spring 2013....I wonder why?  I think his show sold out at the Benedum.  I see you are from Pittsburgh.  We are there a lot.  Love shopping/partying on the Strip & the Southside.  Take care!

Thanks Rachel.  So where you from?  I was at the Benedum as well, my Bonabaptism!  I am hoping hard that Joe will be through the Pittsburgh area on his fall tour next year - somehow I got the impression that is his next northeast US run.

Send me a PM/e-mail if you're coming to town, I live close to the Strip and Southside!  Would be fun to meet you, have some refreshments and talk about Joe!
