Re: stolen guitars?

Just got a call from my insurance agent, and good news, guitars are covered under my homeowners insurance policy (State Farm). He is getting the ball rolling on the report and said to expect a call from the claims people in the next few days. Does anyone happen to have the Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide and could let me know the book value of it? I will need to let them know.

Thanks,
Logan

Re: stolen guitars?

Aside from looking locally, keep in mind the closest large city. Philly is about an hour and half from me and I know people who have had gear stolen have recovered it there. eBay is another place to keep an eye out cause of its anonymity versus Craigslist. And if found at a pawn shop or somewhere be sure to have printed out paperwork if the laws showing its rightfully yours with supporting police documentation just I case a pawn shop got example tried to get money out of you upon retrieval.

If I stole a guitar I would not want to sell it to a pawn shop or guitar store on account if the paper trail. Especially assuming its owner would have reported it, even more so if it were a vintage guitar, the serial number would most likely come up if a reputable shop were to check before accepting the instrument. I'd probably go eBay or Craigslist.

Re: stolen guitars?

I'm still looking around.. and I've just emailed Heritage insurance to insure the rest of my guitars. If nothing, this was a learning experience. A really hard one.

Re: stolen guitars?

Logan that price is blue book. I can find my vintage price guide. I can't find my camera either.

I hope you recover it quickly and in its rightful condition. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Stay Safe

Re: stolen guitars?

Sorry to hear about the axe being gone. I sure hope you get it back!

Renter's and Home owners ins. can have extra policies on mus. instruments... and it's very cheap. I also have not ever made a claim. When you want to set this up, any instrument worth more than $500 needs to have an appraisal done and submitted to the insurance company underwriters. When I did this for mine, they asked me multiple times if I was a professional musician (because then it wouldn't be covered) but I say I'm just a guitar collector.

I'm waiting to see how this plays out with my insurance company

I've only got one more pawn shop in the area that I couldn't get a hold of yesterday due to limited weekend business hours. I was told that about 80% of stolen guitars end up here, so maybe... just maybe. It makes me really nervous to take guitars out of my house.

I agree, that's why I can't bring myself to take out the big hitters and limit myself to my Epiphone SG and Firebird 7. If they went astray it'd be bad but not as gut wrenching as losing my Les Pauls.

That said, I might now be taking my Standard out to play at the next gig - I've invested in a 1.5 metre cycle cable lock and inbetween sets I'm gonna run the cable through the guitar strap (held on with strap locks) and the handle of one of my 4 x 12's. Insane I know but it might bring me piece of mind when I'm more than a flying leap away from the stage area
