Topic: Rochester 11/16

I am so excited for tomorrow! I saw Joe in Buffalo in May with a friend  and thought he was fabulous. My wife could tell I was so enthused that she pretty much demanded to see the next show with me. I appreciate others posting the set lists from prior shows and their reviews. I am new here but plan on visiting often. Thanks for hosting this forum!

It is hard to believe there is only 1 day left. I bought these tickets on June 9, right after seeing the show in Buffalo. Can't wait!

Re: Rochester 11/16

Hi norton, glad to have you on the Forum!

You already know to be ready to freak out during Joe's show.  Trouble is, it's over all too soon.  You wait and you wait and can't stand it, and then poof, you're on the other side of it, but at least you can take the wonderful high with you for weeks.

Enjoy and welcome!

We just shipped RICjunkie off on the redeye making his way from San Diego to Rochester after some brews and a nice hang near the airport closing out a west coast working tour. He'll be at the show tomorrow. Rock on Tom! Wishing we could join all of you happy fans. smile

Re: Rochester 11/16

John Hiatt is in Niagara Falls tomorrow night. Any chance he'd be in Rochester for a guest appearance? Probably not but what a treat if he were!

Re: Rochester 11/16

It was a great show.  Joe really has changed up how his concerts lay out.  Much more emphasis on blues, volume changes, and precision.  He is just so smooth and elegant in his playing.  Makes it look oh so easy.

I loved the 4 song accoustic intro.  Very nice.  Next few songs were from his new album.  Then onto pure blues.  Close with some old standbys that are just fantastic.

I thought Joe acted with such dignity and class tonight.  The crowd was very rude on occasions, I thought, yelling when Joe was playing quietly.  I wanted to yell to folks, "SHUT THE F UP AND LISTEN TO JOE PLAY!!!"  But folks seemed to feed off each other.

Joe showed his class when he joked later, "its only in Rochester where someone can yell, "JOEY, PLAY THE FLYING-V!!!!""  And yes, someone in the crowd yelled that.  When Joe was playing quietly and beautifully.

Major props to Joe for laughing it off.  He could not have handled it better.

Re: Rochester 11/16

I bought my ticket in May for the Nov 16th show last night and couldn't wait. My nephew (he's from New Hartford) introduced me to Joe's music and after listening to his music had to go to see him in person. He is awesome. What an awfully great talent, musician and person. I am from Utica originally and thrilled to be able to say he's from my hometown.  Concert blew me away and I will always remember this night. Thank you Joe (Joey...LOL) PS...I live up the street from the H.O.G.

RobH I agree with your statement about the rudeness.  This is the first concert I went to that I saw many Jack in the Boxes. It was quite a distraction.  I would never leave my seat for fear of missing something. I was wondering if it was a distraction to Joe also or what he was thinking.

A great summation Rob. I saw Joe in May and the setlist was very different yet both shows were fabulous. His range and tone are just fantastic. He plays in colors and moods and with precision and yet you can just feel the passion for the music. You always get your moneys worth too. Very very little time consuming patter. Just one great tune after another for 2+ hours.

I couldn't wait for the show to begin and then I never wanted it to end. I could see him again today and I would be just as excited. The guitar in a master craftman's hands like Joe, is an instrument and not just a source of noise. His craft and professionalism and passion is wonderful. You can just tell the man loves to play! I am old enough to have seen many many great guitarists. Joe is the best I have ever seen and I only wish I could see him again soon. Thank God for my ipod!

okay I did as you suggested. (wasn't sure if I could)  I see your from Lancashire. My long lost uncle's family was from there (Morecambe) They now live in Bolton. After years of looking for them I just found them on FB just a few weeks ago. Some feat when all I had was a name and a clue like Morecambe stamped on the back of a foto.

Good job they weren't called Smith. Might have been a bit more of a problem. lol

I liked the review very much but, having gone to the show, I know he played Oh Carol and Wee Wee Hours (for his mother as he stated) too. Both weren't mentioned in the set list.

Thanks, I was wondering what those songs were called.  Did he really play "Song Of Yesterday"?  How the hell did I miss that?  I don't recall that at all.  Have I lost my mind completely, or is the review incorrect?
