I'll play! I like the 58' Historic reissues. Why? Because everybody wants a flame top, I just like to see lots of wood grain in a plain top! Bourbon burst is my favorite finish, and I wouldn't want it beat up, but I would like to see it in a dull almost mat finish as if it was aged in a case for 50 years. Last reason is the neck is a freakin' baseball bat! I don't have big hands at all or long fingers but after 13 years of playing nonstop I find my hands hurt more while and after I'm playing with thin necks. Pretty much all Gibsons are big enough, even some modern C shapes are fine for me. But if I pickup anything made in Japan or anything that your supposed to play really fast I find my hands hurting or going numb! What can I say I'm into fatties! (necks that is)
In the 90's Gibson made some of the best Reissues IMO...
The prices were not bad and they have some of the best "Killer" Tops ever produced....!!!
Even the Plus Tops from the Standard run were out of sight.
All of the changes over the years & slight changes here and there is a marketing tool....
There are more Artist models than ever...I think it's out of control....
Today....you're spending on a new plain top what a flame top once costs...Nothing wrong with Plain tops...as they used to be under 2K.

I like the cut of your jib, sir!

I'm head over heels in love with my 2012 R8 plain top, although it has the most amazing mild flaming all over it.....only wish I knew how to post photos of it, would like to show it here!
I really love my 2 Beanos. Both are Murphy Aged, and one is signed and serialed, inspected and played by Slowhand himself. THe other is just aged.
My Collectors Choice 3, (copy of Joe's Batman) shares duty with my unsigned Beano as my #1. Joe signed the back of the Collectors CHoice #3 recently and I am telling you he left some serious mojo on it. I have never played this guitar as well as I do now since Joe felt her up one side and down the other. This is a great guitar in its own right but I was having trouble getting used to the 59 fatboy of a neck (though the original guitar itself is an early 60 model technically). Now I just love it to death and seeing Joe's sig on the back of the headstock gives me goosebumps.
I have a 61 Les Paul RI signed and played by Derek Trucks that plays very well also. This is the 5th guitar I grab. The 4th isn't an RI but a Gibson Custom prototype Chocolate Les Paul Custom with gold hardware throughout. Its heavy but plays like butter. Great tone etc. The problem is nobody can seem to tell me what pickups are in them. Its serial is CLCP Proto 1 (Custom Limitied Chocolate Prototype) THe color is medura brown. As a custom it comes with full triple binding and magnificinet custom inlays on the headstock and fret board. Definitely one of the best custom shop models I have ever played, both in feel and gorgeous looks.
So 59, 60, or 61 RIs work very well for me. I want a 57 Goldtop RI but I will likely have to wait for that.
Translation: I have several Hisotoric model guitars and like to boast about them all. Topic is pertaining to what you like about any particular historic model guitar that sets it apart and makes it special to you. But thanks for the update on who signed what.

Easy. Use a surrogate photo service such as photobucket and post the link here.

Excuse me, I must have misread the topic. Post is deleted. Rough crowd.
R7 Goldtop
RI58 Bourbon Burst with JB Signature pickups......
R8 Plaintop, although I own an amazing R7 GT.
The R7 was way lighter than the R8 when I crossplayed them, so she came home with me. Sound wise they were equal. Personally, I am not a big fan of too bursty tops.

Hey, I didn't mind. I would like to see a picture of the Custom. I allways say I don't like them, (but my favorite Lester is the Fretless Wonder Black Beauty, would love to own one) but I've never seen one that i didn't think was beautiful, would love to see your's in chocolate.
If anyone has lots of cash and is interested, I found this on ebay.

I've got a R8 which i love. Prefer fat necks and maybe that's the point. I once met my guitar
and that was it, she feels so right and plays so right.
Yes, i like a nice flame but so far no other guitar crosses my way to change my plaintop.
Whats the old saying "Buy a 58' for the road, buy a 59' to collect."
For me its my Music Machine Stinger R7. Its in my photo on the left.
