Topic: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

Hey guys,

Wondering if you knew (or Joe himself) if Joe uses Finger Ease or any other string lubricant?

I used it after a personal recommendation from Phil Emmanuel, I love it.

All the best from (now) sunny Adelaide,

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

Hey Stefan, I've never tried that but have been using GHS Fast Fret for years. There was a brief discussion on here, might have been a thread gone off topic, about different string lubes.

JB has mentioned using a shot of Nut Sauce during string changes but nothing regarding anything for the playing end of the strings. I would venture a guess that since the strings are most likely fresh every night, there is no need. But I'm just speculating.

Hmm interesting... I use it on new strings too... Just for the feel... Curious though... I really recommend the stuff... Good for the back of the neck too for when your hand is sliding about and the neck gets all sticky from sweat etc.

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

I can't speak for Joe, but I used to use it decades ago when I gigged a lot.  Nowadays though, I don't like the feel of it any more and don't use it.

Funny thing though - I found an old gig bag of mine from 20 years ago recently, and inside it was an ancient can of Finger-Ease.  Just the SMELL of the stuff brought back many fine memories of gigs that I played back then...

Ahh yes.  Smell is scientifically the strongest marker for memory!!!

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

SO, anybody, what's the active ingredient(s) in Nut Sauce?  I mean, are we talking a heavy but clean and string vibration transparent oil???!!!

I get a little dubious about claims, but when Joe uses something I knew it at least works, which in the world of guitar gear, electric or acoustic, means it is the best!

Yeah I use it before I play and after to clean the strings. It makes them last longer and keep their tone. And yes the back of the neck it keeps it nice and slippery easy to slide up and down.

FInger Ease is great stuff. ...been around along time ....it's like guitar WD-40.....:)

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

I really couldn't say a bad thing about it! Love the stuff!! big_smile

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

I also remember JB saying NutSauce was something he used...

I've used fastfret when I first started playing, it feels too oily to me.

I use Nut Sauce every now and then. My guitar tech says it kills tone. It looks like you're putting vaseline in the nut's grooves. I put it on the guitars that when you turn the tuner it doesn't come to pitch smoothly.

I bought my first bottle of finger ease two years ago, and I'm now on my second bottle. I'm convinced it makes stings last a little longer since I have very sweaty hands. I makes the frets look nice and fretboard never looks dry. It doesnn't hurt, so I use it regularly. It's most noticeable on my acoustics, but use them equally on electrics.

Okay, that is is new to me. Been using Nut Sauce for a couple of years and haven't noticed any tone killing. But there might be something about it...next string change I will not apply it, maybe there truly is a difference. Thanks for the hint.

Anyways, I made extremely good experiences with this product so far. I play a lot of studio and live gigs and I barely have to tune my guitars.

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

Can't see nut sauce affecting tone but I can see it helping the notes be in tune!

I'm definately a fan - it's a completely different product to the string cleaner / conditioners though.

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

i use both products on every guitar I own and it's something i dont want to do without.

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

FWIW, I've read on other forums that 'Nut Sauce', which sells for around $20 a tube is available in most electronics department stores for about $5.  Same applicator and everything, just a different label.  Apparently it is an electronic component lubricant that someone discovered works well on guitar nuts and 'rebadged' it for 4x the price.

I've never tried it as it is not easily available here in Oz.  I just run a sharp 2B pencil in the grooves on my guitar nuts when doing string changes.  Seems to work well as far as reducing string sticking...

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

I was just going to say...I use a pencil. Never had any trouble.

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

That's what I've always done too!! Pencils are definitely readily available!! smile

Re: Does Joe use Finger Ease?

Nut sauce is excellent and we usually pay around 6-7 for it and it lasts ages. Finger ease is super nd makes a real difference, picked that one up from Phillips Sayce.

Might have a look on eBay for it and try it out one time!
