Wow is all I can say, review to come
It was good stuff for sure! Loved everything about it!! Highlights for me were Midnight Blues, getting to meet my guitar hero, and the wife's comments afterwards are priceless to me....
"I'm glad I didn't have to pretend to have a good time for your sake." Awesome!
So, was the set list like the one from Kansas City, or like the ones from Tulsa and Dallas? Inquiring minds want to know.
nmagcorn,
Same set list as Kansas City. Joe made the statement that after seeing video of Chuck Berry playing at the Fox Theater he had always wanted to play there. Chuck Berry's son was at the show last night.

Random thoughts and highlights:
This was my second chance to see Joe in the past six months. This time I knew it would be amazing due to the venue. The Fabulous Fox Theatre in St. Louis is a Grand Dame of theatres. She is so gorgeous. Check out their website for some great photos of the interior.
Prior to Joe appearing on stage an old song about St. Louis played. Can't remember the name but it was sweet.
Loved Joe's new set. Very simple with out a fancy backdrop. Just the equipment and some great spotlights. Acoustic set was fabulous. Fav of the bunch was Dislocated Boy. That song was screamin'. Tal and his conga and bongos great.
Woke up dreaming was the last acoustic song. Dear hubby and I both looked at each other at one point and said, does that sound like some chet atkins he playing. I don't know but it was way cool. The crowd was very appreciative of the set and excited for what was too come. Slow train started off the electric set and did not disappoint. Dust Bowl was good. Joe just slayed the guitar on this. Joe has added one of my favorites from the new album. Who's been talking. This just took me back to the roots of blues music. A great addition in my opinion. When the first strains of Midnight blues started I got so excited. My hubby was laughing at me because I was so happy. The guitar and Joe's vocals outstanding. Only tiny complaint was the echo was more than I remembered. I think it was intentional but it did not detract from the song. Loved it. Random thought- Joe seemed really happy and excited by the venue. He made several comments through the night about it. You know he does not talk much but you could tell he and the band both were having a great time. At one point he said the number of people that were there and how much he had wanted to play the Fox. He said he was so glad that all of us were there to share it with him A humble guy as always. The band and Joe sound really clean and crisp to me. Maybe it was the theatre or the new rig. Either way it was very good. Joe played two songs to honor Chuck Berry, they were great. Joe you sounded just like Chuck. I heard Chuck's kids were there. I am sure they were honored too.
Another highlight for me was Youngman blues. Joe's vocals on this were spot on. Man has his voice improved with age. Sounded silky smooth. He has such control of his notes and he just rocked it out. Tal and Carmine and Rick too did a great job on this song in particular. Mountain Time and John Henry were my two favorites of the night. Sounded like a new arrangement on John Henry. I am no music student but whatever they changed I liked it. Mountain time and that black guitar Joe plays are just fabulous. the strains of Django he sprinkles in during the intro was fabulous.
Are you getting the sense that we had a good time. We surely did. The encores of Sloe Gin and Just Got Paid had the whole house on our feet. Just got paid was fabulous, Joe was jammin and smokin and any other adjective you can find. everyone was cheering, dancing, singing and jumping.
What a tight band Joe has. They sound so good. We all know how great Joe is but the band make him sound even better. They all seemed so happy and relaxed. Joe joked when one of the amps blew that they were rocking too hard. As soon as it was fixed, off they went rocking us out. The joy of seeing Joe live is something I wish for everyone. Apparently our street teaming worked on this one because it looked to be a sell out. I met several folks at a local bar before the show that were as excited as me. Two guys, Don and Chuck I think were from Hannibal MO and said they had seen Joe the last time he played St. Louis. They said and I quote, " That Joe B, he is a monster" . I concur. Sweet husband and I loved every minute of it. As I said at the begining, I never wanted it to end. Thank you Joe, Tal, Rick and Carmine. You guys are the best.
Awesome review!!! I cannot wait until Saturday night now!! Then we get to see him again in Charleston!!! Cant wait!!

that's great then! the fab fox holds a little over 4000.....so a near sell out at a great venue.
I agree, wonderful review that was fun to read. It seems Joe loved the venue too. I also understand not wanting it to end. I hope you know when your next show will happen. It eases the pain Cathy

Hope to make it too Vegas or chicago
Joe also joked taking a walk earlier that day and getting stopped by about 25 people on the street who said they were at Joe's first gig in STL...Blueberry Hill. He said he believed the first guy and maybe the second guy, but that there were only 6 people at that show, so when #25 said he was there, Joe responded "No, you were not". Funny stuff.

I could have swore Joe said 2500, but I might be mistaken.
JBFan1,
Joe did say 2500. The Fox holds @ 4000, but the upper balcony was not open for sale for this show. This is quite a jump from the last time Joe played St. Louis at The Pageant in Oct. of 2009, to a crowd of @ 600.
~Rhonda
Thanks Rhonda for the clarification. I did not remember what number he said, I was so excited and listening to him say he was glad we were there I forgot the number. It won't be long and he will be selling out every show.
I love jb's music but I was upstairs at the Fox and the sound was the absolute worst I have ever heard. You could hardly make out what was being played. Every song sounded like pots and pans falling down concrete stairs. Several people gave up and left half way thru. We stayed hoping it would get better. It didn't. If Joe had heard what I heard in the Mezz he would insist that the Fox refund all of the tix $ for those of is that had seats upstairs
