Topic: Thin Lizzy

Read recently, that Scott Gorham has announced that Thin Lizzy will tour no more after they complete their current touring obligations. Evidently they want to go into the studio, and record a new album, and Gorham doesn't think it's right to do it under the Thin Lizzy name, out of respect for Phil Lynot. They are doing a farewell tour now, looks to be all in Europe.

I love Thin Lizzy, the Brian Robertson/Scott Gorham duo on guitars freakin' killed.

Re: Thin Lizzy

lizzy is awesome......gorham was on board with the album for a long time and then suddenly jumped ship.....so i think there is more to the story on this what what has been said.

Re: Thin Lizzy

I'd say give it time, give Scott time...I think will 2013 will be good for whatever he has up his sleeve.

Re: Thin Lizzy

I have a hard time believing it's over as well.  Time will tell.

Re: Thin Lizzy

I'm thinking maybe they are going to release a new album under a different name. I don't think Gorham is done, just maybe retiring the Lizzy name.

Re: Thin Lizzy

The advert for Lizzy's show at the SBE in today's Metro newspaper is headed "Farewell". Looks pretty conclusive to me. Then again, how many farewell tours have we seen from other artists? hmm

This is exactly it.
If you read the articles all over the web carefully, it states that the album they have been already writing will be released...just under a different name. They will also likely tour heavily as this existing band, just a different name. They will also play many Thin Lizzy songs in this band...just under a different name.
Easy.

Re: Thin Lizzy

He was getting pretty fed up for a long time with the flak he/they got from a lot of fans even with the current set up. In a way it was no win for him. A new album of songs as TL was just gonna get him a web full of flak which would probably turn a lot of people off.

I saw them with Viv Campbell back in 2010. They were trying to put the melody back into the show and it was good......but..... he still hadn't learnt from the John Sykes version and it was way too loud and almost metal at times, which I think was unfortunate.

Tough call though. I'm a fan, I'm in a Lizzy Tribute band for chrissakes and maybe thats just it. They want to record something new so they are not a tribute of themselves but if they do they'll get flayed for it. No win.

I follow what he (Gorham) does with interest. He was playing great when I last saw him.

Hmm.  What to call it?  Black Rose?

Re: Thin Lizzy

Just been confirmed that they are supporting Kiss & Motley Crue in Australia in March 2013.

Re: Thin Lizzy

I saw the current band open for Judas Priest last year and they were really good! Definitely not the "loud" metal like band it had become. Very vintage sound and great melodic playing like you expect.

Renaming it wouldn't be a bad idea at all though, for the reasons already stated.

Already claimed by a tribute band.

Re: Thin Lizzy

The first concert I ever went to was Thin Lizzy back in 1980. I love them and Live and Dangerous is in my top 10 albums of all time. I think Scott should retire the name though.
I would love to see them in Melbourne next March but I hate big stadium shows so I will have to give it a miss. Hopefully they do a side show.

Re: Thin Lizzy

They have a new guitar player as Richard Fortus left to join Axl's Guns and Roses. I look forward to the new album. I remember seeing the bass player, Marco Mendoza, when he was playing with Ted Nugent on the "Craveman" tour. Mendoza also spent time with Whitesnake and Dokken.
