Totally agree! Plant will always be my favorite singer of all time! I remember when my older son was about four, he piped up from the back seat "Mommy, put on 'oh baby'" I guess I had subjected him to a lot of Zeppelin. But one does have to start early with these things !
love the song, vocals and drums are outstanding. Jimmy's guitar sounds awful, squeaky squelchy with too too much wah going on. He must have used an Oster blender for a pedal on this one. Ain't buyin it period, end ah story.

Says a man with a Lifeson avatar...bahaha

Ha, little hard rocker eh!Love it!
you're right Dave, it amounts to the "pot calling the kettle black" as my dad used to say. However, I truly believe that Page is highly overrated. He will stay high on a lot of "lists" just because of the body of Zeps work. I think he is a great acoustic guitarist, not so much on electric. just my skewed opinion.

Each to his own of course. Hearing both sounds live at their relevant concerts (as much as the mixing may have changed for the better on a Rush dvd and worse for this Zep release), Page's sound was far better live. This was when Lifeson was using that giant pedalboard and H&K...it could be a lot better for all I know...but listen to his Page inspired tone on Caress of Steel...I wish all albums sounded like that now...classic loud, clean Plexi...can't say Jimmy wasn't a big influence to a number of people with the II type tone.
i think the video sounds fantastic......surprised by how well plant sounds. i also have no problems with page's tone.
as for the lifeson vs. page tone debate i think they both have a long history of providing some incredible tones for all of us.
lifeson is one of my all time faves and always will be.......i do think page is a really good guitar player....not as good as some make him out to be.....BUT the man is truly responsible for providing some of the greatest riffs in the history of rock and roll.....period....its not debatable.......AND when you think about WHEN they were written it's even more amazing.......almost all of those classic riffs still sound fresh and incredible today much less 4+ decades ago.
i much much much prefer rush's overall catalog over led zep's......because to me i like nearly everything rush has done.....just works for my ears......where as there are some led zep stuff that i really dont like at all.....BUT when they got it right it was literally some of the best stuff ever........and so for me I am much more a gigantic fan of alot of led zep songs and not their entire catalog.
really didn't mean to start a Zep vs Rush debate, but since we are talking about a live production for mass distribution I will say I like A Show of Hands as a benchmark for sound. Another good one is the 3 disc "Mirrors" CD (semi-bootleg) recorded over 2 nights in SF or Oakland? I have no idea if it was HK's or before that ill fated era (error), it just sounds tremendous especially when turned UP.
I only got to see Jimmy once in 1978, he sounded great in spite of the horrible acoustics in that arena. Alex didn't sound so good 2 of the 3 times I saw him, this was the HK era. The last time was the charm at the arena next to the Superdome, he must have cranked it up a little. I'm going to listen to this some more, think I've changed my mind and will probably buy it just because it's Zep.
