Topic: RUSH - Alex Lifeson rig changes - Les Pauls and Jubilees

Hey All,

Just went to see RUSH last night on their Clockwork Angels tour.  Amazing show!!!!

At any rate, I was checking out what Alex is using on this tour and the Clockwork Angels cd.  Come to find out he dropped his H&K line of amps and went with Marshall 2550.  Then he had Mojo Tone make him a clone of the Silver Jub.  He said they are amazing amps and that the 2550 is in a box somewhere in his storage.  He is using those amps from Mojo exclusively on this tour as his main amp.  Plus he is using a Mesa Boogie mark V and a H&K.  He also used a Les Paul on every song but 1.  I saw that he used his signature axcess in black for most of the show.  Used a black custom a couple of songs.  On the heavier songs he used both a 57 reissue gold top and what looked like a58 reissue.

Here is a link to his rig.  The guitars he used are pictured in photos #4, 6, 7, 9, and 10.  The reissue 58 is not on this link.

Geddy used every bass on this link last night...

And for the first time they had a small orchestra on stage during the second half of the show with them...this allowed Alex and Geddy to just rock out!!!

OMG, I can't believe he finally ditched the H&K's, for the most part. It's been a long time coming. Small orchestra??, that sounds extra primo. You could post something on the concert in Other Artists, would not hurt my feelings. thanks.

The H&Ks sounded bad. He had a really messy, fuzzy tone for ages. Hope he is going back to the 70s...
Best album tone for me is Caress of Steel...by far.

hemispheres or moving pictures tone for me.

out of the "newer tones" i prefer the sounds on counterparts.  even though that album is damn near twenty years old......lol

Re: RUSH - Alex Lifeson rig changes - Les Pauls and Jubilees

Check out the feature article in Guitar Player mag for the full skinny. Basically the rig is a Jubilee for crunch and MkV for clean with a switchblade for the odd song. The Axe FX is used for effects only. There's also some Guitar Rig stuff in there as well. If memory serves, the Jubilee is a 50 watter that was introduced to Lifeson by their producer.
Hint: buy the mag it's a quality article.

Saw Rush about 4 weeks ago in St. Louis - wore my t-shirt from when I first saw them in 1980 on the "Tour of The Hemispheres".

Alex is playing Les Paul's almost exclusively on this tour!
