Topic: JB Les Paul Studio Goldtop Question

Hey everyone.  I am getting close to pulling the trigger on one of the JB Les Paul Studio Goldtops.  I have seen in several places where these are referred to as a limited run.  However; I haven't been able to track anything down that shows specifically how many of these they are making total.  Do any of you know the total number being produced?  I am assuming it can't be all that limited because there appear to be quite a few of them around still.  Let me be clear, I am buying this guitar to play.  So, the collectibility/limited run aspect won't affect my decision to buy it one way or another.  I was just more curious than anything since I keep seeing references to it being a limited run.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide me.

Re: JB Les Paul Studio Goldtop Question

Limited used to be 300-400 or so made...now days I do not think that applies.....I'd try to get one from 2011 if you can do so...

Re: JB Les Paul Studio Goldtop Question

Thanks for the reply airportdon.  I really appreciate the info.  So, am I understanding you correctly that the initial run from 2011 was a limited run and now it is a standard production model that is available?  Also are there then any differences between the initial 300-400 and the ones they are producing since then?  Again, thanks for the help.

I'm not saying in 2011,  Joe Bonamassa Gibson Studios were limited to 300-400.....I don't know exactly how many were made.

Gibson used to make Limited run Guitar of the Month (Sg, Les Paul, Flying V etc ) that were truly only 300-400 total.

In 2012 they had a run in with the feds for the wood used on the necks etc.,,In 2011 the wood may be better than a Studio made in 2012  ...
that's why I mentioned  to go after a 2011 instead of a 2012.

Got it.  Thanks very much for clarifying your information.

Re: JB Les Paul Studio Goldtop Question

The 2011 Studio I believe was a 1200 production run, half were sold to the US and half to the UK, with an option for like 300 more if needed. I have one of them and I've never looked back. smile Amazing guitar to gig with.
