Topic: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

As I sit here listening to Warren  on Spotify this morning I was curious if anyone liked the same songs as me.

Stella Blue, Soulshine, Patchwork Quilt come to mind.  How about you?

Re: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

I'll Be The One is my favourite song by Warren....

I keep coming back to Broke Down On The Brazos by the Mule, because of that groove bass.

Dave I was just listening to Broke Down.   Good one.  There are so many.  My son of course loves Gov't Mule and can't believe his old momma likes to jam too:)

Re: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

weird, was just listening to By a Thread last night. Railroad Boy and Inside Outside Woman Blues are good. My fav is 32/20 Blues, got hooked on the Deepest End release with Sonny on slide. They did this for the encore in Nashville a few years back and subbed Jack Pearson on slide with Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie) on harmonica. Outstanding!

I could never pick a favorite for these guys - they hardly ever do the same thing the same way twice.  My brother got me going on these guys years ago, so glad to see them touring again.  Last year was a long wait.

Broke Down on the Brazos is one kick a** song though.

You are right on all accounts Sandy.   I was just listening to Live a Bonaroo( 2004) and they did all the songs kind of slow,  but in live performance they rock out.  Would love to go to Warren's Christmas Jam in Ashville, NC.

I forgot about Railroad Boy.  That is a fabulous song.  Wish Joe and Warren would do that one together.

Lay Your Burden Down.

Re: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

Interesting to read everyone's favorites. My preference is GM's early stuff, the Allen Woody era. Favorite recording by far is Live at Roseland Ballroom, and then Dose/Life Before Insanity are neck-and-neck for 2nd place, depending on the day and my mood.

Can't narrow it down to just one. I'd say either Trane or Mule...again, it varies from day to day. If I had to pick just one today, I'd say "Mule" off the Live at Roseland.

If you don't have this album, it's a must have!

Re: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

agree with the comments about it being impossible to name just one... my iTunes Govt Mule/Warren Haynes/Allman (WH era) playlist has 68 songs in it with 8 hours of playtime in there...

Fav riff songs: Slackjaw Jezebel, BD on the Brazzos, Bad Little Doggie
Fav Mellow songs: Railroad Boy (although not strictly mellow as it works up to a great solo and build up), Beautifully Broken, Forever More, Fallen Down.
Fav Blue's; Catfish Blues
Fav Boggie; Thorazine Shuffle
Fav Cover; War Pigs and Cortez the killer
Fav Allman's; Good Clean Fun
Fav Most Unusual collaboration, - Mercy on My Soul with Everlast - bet not too many of you know that one! wink

Warren is a musical genius.

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:

Agree with a lot of those already mentioned but I'll add Ballerina, beautiful song. Also, Tastes Like Wine is another favourite of mine.

Re: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

Was lucky enough to be at the Halloween show they did in Boston (2008) where the theme was Pink Floyd - Pig and all.  MATT actually "sang" Have a Cigar:  which was  a very memorable moment.  That was an awesome night.  I also, for some reason, love Thorazine Shuffle.

Also loved this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwkwU0Hlzkg   Working Class Hero, the emotion is incredible (unfortunately the video isn't quite that caliber).

I think after Joe they are the most numerous folks in my music collection.

Hi there,
some of my favourites are already named, Thorazine Shuffle, Beautyfully Broken, Patchwork Quilt,  Cortez The Killer and so on, but a cover I like also very much is Simple Man from the Mulenníum CD!

Sorry for the lame answer, but whatever they play is my favorite song ...  wink

There's just too many to pick - maybe you could chose a "day favorite". Today's favorite is "I shall return".

Re: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

Great replies,  I think I must agree that other than Joe, Warren is my favorite.  I have been listening to Live at  Bonaroo from 2004. So much emotion on this cd.  Of course I love Govt' Mule too.  But Warren all alone    is like a cool glass of wine for me.

Re: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

I'm with Eva, Sandy & Ian on this one. I really don't know if I can nail it down to one or more favourites. The man WH can do no wrong in my eyes. Even Mighty High is very cool in its own way and gets an airing every now and again.

"I love the guitar of the man Warren Haynes
He's out here with his lion mane,
He's my friend, he comes so rocking hard
But sometimes he play so sweet, yes, on his guitar"

From Play With Fire on Mighty High. I'm definitely not a reggae fan but the bass on this track is superb and reminds me of Sting's bass riff on Bed's Too Big (Without You), for us older music fans.

PS Ian, you need to make some serious additions to your Mule/ABB collection. wink

Re: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

Funny thing about Joe or Warren is that there is always a song just right for the mood I am in.  I think after overplaying the Beacon CD this week, today might just be a good day for Govt Mule and Warren.

Changed my mind.  Today's favorite is John the Revelator

Re: Favorite Warren Haynes/ Govt Mule song

Hard to pick just one favorite, but I'd say "Beautifully Broken."
