Same as its always been on I recently discovered a couple of cats named Dave Friedman and Rob Naverette over at Tone Merchants in North Hollywood... I always wondered how everybody had these custom looking boards... It looks great... The mystery pedal in question I choose to let it remain a mystery at the moment.... The rig as it stood on the last tour is being completely redone.   Its time for a change more for me and my playing..  I have been using the four head combination so long that I feel its almost a parody of itself..  Im simplifying  and going vintage in the new rig... I ll keep you posted when we hit the states and put the rig together in 3 weeks time.

Dave and Rob are great guys and do some AMAZING work!!!  Can't wait to see what you're coming up with!!!

that's awesome!  can't wait to see and, especially, hear the new rig.  since i picked up a 30 year old 2 channel kelley facs, i've been reworking my rig extensively.  now i'm running the facs and an a really nice clone of a particular dumble hrm.  it's a magic mix, imo.  before the reworking, my setup was a non-hrm and a vibroking.  incredible mix, too.  each makes me play differently.  gear can kind of make you forget some of the music you have inside of you, because you tend to play toward the rig's strong suits.  give you self a different set of strong suits, different music comes out.

anyway, looking forward to the boston show!

Hey Joe, if you're growing tired of the 4 amp rig you can send a Van Weelden and a Silver Jubilee my way smile

Dave Friedman is just a super nice guy, he hangs out on the Metroamp forum quite a bit and is always helpful. His client list reads like a who's who and his "Marsha" hot rodded plexi's are very cool. Going vintage in the new rig...can't wait to hear it!

Re: what's the mystery pedal on your new board, joe?

I am very curious to see what Joe brings out this time. Interesting to hear that he might be going away from the 4 amp set up. I wonder if using those 59's has made him want to scale back to amps that just let the tone of the guitars come through.

I think you've nailed it.

So it says TTD Overdrive.

"MXR TTD Overdrive. New product supposed to emulate a Chandler Tube Driver"

These are going to go like hotcakes...

I wonder how soon until they're announced/ released? As much as I'd love to support B.K. Butler, I'm a broke college student...

Re: what's the mystery pedal on your new board, joe?

I for one would love to see JB sticking to a two amp set up, with a Marshall Major and maybe a Two Rock or Van Weelden.  Lots of headroom to let the guitar do the talking!  I am sure whatever he decides will be just great.  Funny if he showed up using combos :-P

I am sure the MXR pedal will sound good, but I wonder which tube type it is going to emulate, as it looks to small to have a regular 12Ax7 tube in it.  IMHO my tube drivers always sounded much better with 12AT7 or 12AU7.

Re: what's the mystery pedal on your new board, joe?

I would think from the visual aspect of the "put on a show" stand point, it wouldn't be too radically different than the current setup but then again if Vintage meaning Vintage, ...who knows. I guess 2 Marshalls on 2 cabs could still be vintage and will always look killer. Was never a fan of the 6 head setup.. Much less the 4 banger. (speaking only of looks) I'm set and happy with my "rig" but still curious as to what it may be. Always cool looking at and seeing other people's rigs and setups.

Re: what's the mystery pedal on your new board, joe?

Unless Joe went "retro" and did a Pete Townshend or Jimi full stack back line.

i think most theatres now have such a large Front of House sound system, Joe could probably get away with a Fender Champ in the backline .

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

Re: what's the mystery pedal on your new board, joe?

Can we have two Majors on full, pretty please?

Re: what's the mystery pedal on your new board, joe?

We should do a pool and see who gets closest to guessing what the new rig will be.  I will go way out on a limb and say an old Marshall 4 holer and a tweed Fender twin.

Re: what's the mystery pedal on your new board, joe?

The new rig is gonna be old school....  Vintage cabs and stuff but its all gonna be paired down in LA on the 19 th and 20th... Its the first time in 10 years I have been able to work on just the rig in this matter.. Its gonna be simple and way paired down...  With age and grey hair comes the willingness to strive for the simple life!!! On stage and off...

I can say already without knowing exactly what it is, that this rig is going to be my favourite so far!
