there are no major issues with their transformers that I know of
my HRM is 2 years old no issues yet

Best thing to do is email Nik and tell him what happened
what voltage do you guys have for mains in Aussie , wonder
whether its been wired for wrong voltage to transformer ??

Transformer is fine, may be a wall voltage issue affecting the bias, we'll have to see!
