Topic: Another from down under

...and another long-time music enthusiast who can't fathom how Joe has escaped my radar until now.

Last month I was on a plane to Melbourne to go to an "Experience Jimmy Hendrix" extravaganza featuring 11 great Australian guitarists including a good friend of mine. Two things coincided:
I had with me 'Australian Guitar' (a mag which i'd once subscribed to but just had this copy for the trip) and in it was a glowing review of the Beacon DVD. Also the in-flight magazine included an article about DTTD, which informed me of our own Jimmy Barnes' involvement on Too Much Ain't Enough Love. I've seen Jimmy put 300% into each of 40-50 shows over the last 30+ years. I thought "I'd better check this out!"

So during the next week I got myself DTTD and within hours had booked a ticket to Joe's show in Sydney on 5th October. Then to Wiki and Youtube and telling all and sundry about what I'd found (and wondering why nobody had told me!)

I now also have the Beacon DVD and Black Rock (oh, and everything on offer from BCC, who I must see once before I die - I'd definitely travel for that, can't see their limited touring ever coming down here).
Any suggestions on where to go next in Joe's extensive back catalogue would be most welcome.

I'm on a number of bands forums but have never before seen anything like Joe regularly and graciously coming on here. Amazing guitarist and seems such a great guy.

Welcome to the forum shadowblue. With little mass exposure it has been easy to miss him, even though he has been working his tail off for the last 20+ years. Hmmm. Where to start? Live From Nowhere in Particular,( referred to as LFNIP) kind of chops his career in half. A great double cd that is a must. RAH dvd is also one of the must have selections. Each of his releases is unique so you have lots of smiles ahead.

Hi Welcome to the forum. RAH is a must have the DVD that is. Well really you need them all.

Welcome to the Forum!  As for Joe's back catalog, you can do what I did:  Saw the RAH show on TV, bought the DVD, then started buying the albums in chronological order.  Fascinating to track Joe's development as an artist that way...

Looks a fine way to go. And that's 3 recommendations for RAH as a must have. I did look at LFNIP when I was last in a store as it included material I keep reading about on here (like (Sloe Gin), it seemed a bit exxy, but (silly me) didn't notice that it was a double.

I deliberately did the chronological thing with BCC (that's easier!) with great self-control to not get (or open if I'd got it) 2 or live until I was well infused with the first.

I the last few years remastered CD versions of complete studio sets Led Zeppelin and Cold Chisel (Jimmy Barnes' superb initial band) came out, replacing my vinyl, interim compliations and filling any gaps. With both I then had the immense pleasure of listening to them, in order, from beginning to end - as they should be. Fantastic. 'Best Of's' just don't get it.
