Re: A Historic Makeover

Congrats on your HM! Beautiful guitar! Hope that it is all you ever dreamed of and more!

I have my R9 there now getting the RDS package (no relicing, however). I'm a bit nervous going through this process as this guitar is rather special and I'm very sensitive to the smallest details. Hoping this will take a '10' to '11', though!

I have a set of Joe's signature pickups waiting here for her when she's done, but I was strongly considering the Throbaks... Perhaps for my Goldtop?

ENJOY!!! =-)

Don't be nervous. Kim has done two for me. If you are on the LPF look up the thread "Look what Kim found"

Re: A Historic Makeover

Absolutely beautiful guitar Wharris! I'm certainly not in the market for sending a guitar to be refinished, not do I have a Gibson Historic model, but out of curiosity, does Kim do regular Les Paul Standards? Obviously the historic frets included with the packages wouldn't fit but I never saw any information on his sight about if he only does R7's 8's 9's etc.. A LP Standard with the ARB1 bridge conversion would look much more along the lines of a Historic. And with a refin, about as close as you could get without spending a ton of cash. And again, lovely guitar. I'm amazed how authentic they look when he's done with them. -S

Re: A Historic Makeover

Kim and Historic Makeovers are the best... I have 4 of his guitars and he currently has a 5th one that we are doing as a "Stripped" burst..  That should prove to be a lot of fun... Congrats on all the nice guitars fellas!! I find the longer I play them the better they open up and feel..  Plus a few real battle scars makes them look perfect!! The other good thing about this process is that they are all real Gibson Les Paul guitars ...  That takes the Fugazi element out of it... I don't like Fake Gibsons at all no matter how good the build process is..

helrazr, call Kim about your Standard. He's a great guy to talk to and will give you honest advice about your guitar.

Wow, I just went through that thread - an amazing transformation.

Stellar work all around.

Bought a 2001 R9 from Rumble Seat, sent it to Kim at Historic Makeovers for the Standard Package, light to mid aging. In addition, nut changed to 6/6, tuners replaced, pots replaced, plastics replaced with parts recommended by Kim. Thobak SLE-101's installed too.

Can't say enough nice things about Kim, personable great guy. I'm just a regular smuck who took a chance and he made me feel like a rock star and a friend. The quality of work and detail to what they do is just amazing, and customer service just out of this world good. Guitar sounds astonishing with the Thobaks and pots, but it's really the feel and playability that blows my mind...not sure how to describe it, feels like home, like i imagined a LP should feel and play all these years but somehow they just never quite did... that is, until now

Here are a couple pics (hope you can see them OK). Would i do it over... hell yes, 10 times.

Another amazing guitar.

Hopefully I can participate myself someday.

Re: A Historic Makeover

Wharris, if I were in the market to have this done I'd be on the phone right away. New house has put the strain on musical gear and the like! I was just curious if he does regular standards. I'd consider sending my goldtop instead of the other LP for a refin hoping it would be as nice as yours. -S
