We now have a NBA team, Sorry Stu, to give us something to cheer besides the Sooners the closest thing to a pro team we had for many years. Not planning on moving anytime soon. Both sons live here and grandsons.

Well we still have the Mariners, Seahawks, Sounders, Storm and UW Huskies. There's a very promising arena deal in the works, so we're cautiously optimistic about having the NBA back (and a NHL team) within the next few years.

True enough! We've had a pretty nice Summer this year though, I don't think it's rained since Independence Day.

I live on Vancouver Island because it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, life quality is high, the people are friendly and the weather, unlike the rest of Canada is mild!  I  lived in Austria for a while too and i must say that's a nice part of the world as well...but it's not as laid back as here and a wee bit too conservative for me. Here people are very tolerant...maybe it's all the BC Bud!  hehe

Hello and welcome, a curious topic for a first post but equally relevant. Why don't you introduce yourself in the introductions thread, why you found and follow Joe etc.  Personally I live in northern UK which with good weather is beautiful in itself. I live in North Fort Myers for about three months of the year and there are areas around there that are magical (Sanibel, Captiva Boca Grande , Longboat Key etc etc. Would I swap if I could? Hell yeah.......

Hey i know all about the North of the UK--my family are all from Yorkshire. My Dad was from Bradford and my mom from Harrogate!  I do find that part of England beautiful...most tourists just head for the South--they do not know what they're missing!

Hey there Jane, welcome. I lived in Austria too, and eventually fled the innate conservatism of life there. wink

I certainly hope that you know of, and support, one of your island's finest musicians - David Gogo? If not, you're missing out on a fine player!

My address may be in Lancs but I am a Yorkshireman through and through myself. big_smile

Re: Why I live where I do!

Interesting reading this thread to see that until recently there were no postings from the UK. I live in Somerset, near Bristol, which is genarally regarded as the gateway to the West Country, a mainly rural part of the UK with few major cities. I was born and raised in the South West and whilst work initially took me east I was glad to come back. I really could not imagine living anywhere else.

I too am a keen fly fisherman and nearby have the famous Blagdon and Chew Valley fisheries. In addition to very beautiful countryside and coast in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, Bristol has easy access to the likes of London in the east and the north of England. I love the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District which are a complete contrast to the West Country landscape and are only 4-5 hours away by car. Even deepest Scotland is less than half a day away.

Re: Why I live where I do!

I think all of England is quite lovely ...and yes i do  know about David Gogo.  I didn't think he'd be well known in other parts of the world--i'm quite surprised.  It's nice to see our lovely little island becoming known as the home of someone (or something) other than Pamela Anderson and Nanaimo bars!

Amsterhammer i must ask--are you Dutch?  If you're North American and living in the EU---can i ask if you prefer life across the pond?  I often think of moving back over there---i'm torn. There were certain aspects of life in Europe i liked--others not so much.  Just wondering about your take on things.

You'd be surprised at the number of Gogo fans on here! I actually know David and am looking forward to seeing him here next month.

No Jane, I'm an American, but I have spent the very vast majority of my adult life living in various major cities of Europe - Vienna, London, Berlin, Amsterdam. I've been here 23 years now and I wouldn't trade Amsterdam for anywhere else (the weather is another matter!).

I regularly visit the US as I have loved ones there, but I know in my heart that I would never be happy living in the US permanently, I'm too used to a different outlook than what is prevalent there. From what little I know about Vancouver Island (and Vancouver,) it sounds like a particularly appealing corner of North America . wink
