The Roger Waters shows use a very complicated syncing process that links a rigid click track with all the AV and special effects. The click track also contains a large portion of Rogers vocals as he hasnt been able to fully sing live for some years.  I saw him in Manchester about 4 years ago and 'Fletcher Memorial Home' vocals started before he had even sat down and picked up his guitar.

The rigidity prevents any improv, but I have also seen a YT interview with Dave where he does say that the solos have to be kept pretty much to the albums.

You are way out of date my friend. There is no "clicktrack" (in the 80s sense...RW hated it because it was audible on soundboard recordings), synchronization has come a long way since 1980 and is primarily visual now. And his vocals, including all of the voices in "The Trial" are live, and excellent. When you see multiple shows in short succession the differences in the vocals from show to show are very clear, just as nuances in the solos are.

You'd have to see the Audi commercial he appearred in based on his Zen approach to living life. I doubt the commercial runs in the UK, maybe it's on Youtube. Just checked, it is on Youtube, funny stuff.

The Coliseum show was "awesome" but not in a good sense. Ive only been there once before for a football game and would have thought they were better organized but from the hour and half drive to go about 5 miles, to the 1 1/2 mile walk from a USC garage (no chance to make it any closer by show time driving), to the lack of information on which "will call" window was for which group of ticketholders and the 45 minute line once I found the right one, to the 3 different gates (and 1/2 mile or so walk)  that I was sent to before they actually let me down to the field seats, it was quite an adventure. (If this had been the 1980 Wall tour I guarantee I never would have found the building I parked my car thanks to my...ummmm...typically intoxicated state for PF shows)

At least RW had the good sense to delay the start nearly an hour, and there still had to be a hundreds of people who hadnt gotten through the maze yet.

The more effective use of surround sound available in the stadium setting was about the only benefit of the venue. The sound was the usual PF/RW perfection (other than a dead mike that caused a restart of "the Thin Ice" after a few lines). The added live projections to fill the much larger Wall also helped those in the back and on the sides get a closer look...somewhat ironic for a show where distance from the audience was the original theme, but Im sure much appreciated.

Like the JB shows Ive been to, I find the need for the audience to become part of the show funny and annoying at the same time. Why people need to stand and iphone video a blank wall is beyond me! I suppose they think that standing and shouting and videos show appreciation, when PF has always preferred an audience that actually listens to the music, and JB has to quiet people during the acoustic and quieter moments.

Re: Roger Waters The Wall

Agree with that Holdem, the venue sucked big time, no signs telling where to enter, if you had floor seats you had to enter on one side if not you had to enter the other side.

Aside the venue problems the show itself was fantastic, never been to an outdoor show that sounded that good.  The extra large wall was really cool.  Of the 5 shows of this tour I've seen the LA show was the best, even with the mic going out and the show being stopped.

Re: Roger Waters The Wall

The DVD release of The Wall - The Concert Film ... was announced yesterday ... will be released 12/1/15 in the US ...
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases … 52713.html

I attended the one night world-wide theatre showing this past Tuesday (9/29/15).  Film intertwines concert footage from the 2010-2013 Tour along with Roger's travels to the locations of his father's ... and grandfather's burial / memorial sites (both of whom were killed in action WW I, and WW II, respectively.)

(Enjoyed seeing this film ... but seeing this concert production live was something to experience ... and thus difficult to "capture" on film.  This film is made up of more concert footage than Roger's travel footage.)

Film Trailer (Roger Waters The Wall - Full Theatrical Trailer):

For those interested ... also announced yesterday ... there will be an encore showing of the film again nationwide on Sunday, Oct 18 (2015) at 12:55 pm.
Participating theaters can be searched at:

Re: Roger Waters The Wall

Your welcome Rick.

The last 10 minutes of the film is a Q & A segment ... Roger and Nick Mason together in a quiet restaurant setting ... sitting in front of a small stack of index cards ... questions submitted from fans ... and answering them mostly in an amusing fashion.

Sorry - Only just seen your comments on this as the thread has been bumped.

Just to come back on a couple of your remarks.

Here is a quote from Dave Kilminster in which he says they are playing to a clicktrack.

"Things are definitely more regimented with Roger," he says. "Take 'Have a Cigar,' for example. It's challenging, because we're playing to a click track, and everything is synchronized to visuals, as well as to a sound effect from the original album that plays at the end. That means I have to finish the solo at exactly the same point every night. Getting used to things like that was initially difficult, but I began realizing this isn't a typical rock gig—it's almost the same as a Broadway show. And the fact is, no one is paying to hear my version of these tunes. The way I channel my personality into the show is to sometimes hit the notes harder and with more attitude, which can give them more immediacy."

As to whether there is any miming going on.  Just put 'Roger Waters LipSync or miming etc into google and there are thousands of posts.  But I don't like hearsay and my original comments stand.  We were watching in Manchester and the song started with vocals before Roger even sat down and picked up the guitar.

It didn't spoil the show for me, but you cant blindly say it doesn't happen either
