Topic: Jeff Beck on American Idol

I realize some of the really cool people on this forum probably don't admit to watching American Idol, but since I'm a not-so-cool mom I'll confess that this American phenom is watched weekly at my house.  This week was "Idol Gives Back", a star-studded, 2 hr fundraiser for AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa and in our own backyard.

Ellen DeGeneres introduced the first American Idol Kelly Clarkson being accompanied by "the legendary Jeff Beck."

Hey Donna...that was awesome! I was in the other room (my wife is an Idol fan) and heard Jeff get introduced. I think she thought I came in to see Kelly Clarkson at first. Anyway, talk about worlds colliding...that was a bit surreal. I gotta give it to Kelly Clarkson though...great voice.

Bill...I was leaving to do another load of laundry, but when I heard Jeff Beck introduced, I sat down and just watched and listened.  I was glad the cameramen didn't only focus on Kelly.  She sounded great, but then again, so did Jeff!

I have that show on Tivo, so it looks like I will have to go back and watch it.  Jeff Beck is going to be at Crossroads II up in Chicago this summer.

Re: Jeff Beck on American Idol

It looked a little awkward at the end of the song. Jeff didn't know wether to stand still or hug her. I love the show, Simon looks like and is just as opinionated as a friend of mine. I miss the rocker Gina, her and her tongue ring! Chris Dautry is on the bill in Memphis next week, hope it doesnt conflict with another artist I want to see.

Yeah Gina was pretty good for sure.  We are going down to see Chris at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach at the end of May.  The show sold out in 7 minutes.  Should be crazy....

Good for Jeff. When's the last time he was on national TV in front of millions of people here in the U.S.? I know a lot of people can't believe he'd be on a show like that, but if it inspires some people to check his music out it can only be a good thing.

Saw the clip on Tivo with Jeff and it was OK, not rockin but he was more or less just laying down some easy going riffs.  Good to see him on National TV though...

Jeff's such a humble guy.  It looked to me that he didn't want to take the spotlight away from Kelly.  Class act for sure.

I agree with that.

Re: Jeff Beck on American Idol

Agreed. I'm not really into Idol but Kelly definitely deserves to be where she is, she has an amazing voice.

Re: Jeff Beck on American Idol

I watch the show, but its canned corporate blah.  Underneath the glitz is a singing competition.  They should do a guitar idol...where they have to play different styles every week. now that would be something.
