Re: RIP Michael K Burks

I never had the honour of seeing him play live but it seems so close coming from George like this.
Special wishes to you George and Cathy and to Michael's family.

RIP Michael.

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

very sad to see this George, but thanks very much for the vid. There is nothing that can prepare us for a sudden event like this, quite traumatic just like losing a family member. hang in there for us.

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

Terrible news...

George was the first one to mention Michael Burks to Susan and I during the Hot August Blues meetup. We finally got to see him in Tampa a few weeks back and had a great time.

I got to speak to him after the show, and we had a great conversation all about his gear. You could tell he really loved talking about his R8 Les Paul and all the work he had done to it and his amps as well.

He was a really cool guy, and a great player and singer. On one of the real slow blues songs his voice reminded me of BB King. We stood right in front of him close to the stage the whole night.

RIP Michael  sad

Thanks to Joe for the following tweet with my last video -

http://t.co/mpsVHLtp Thank you George for such a fitting tribute to Michael..

Thanks also to our good friend, Marco, from Bluesmagazine.nl for his tribute. Check out his stunning pictures of Michael.

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

I also want to give mention to another forum member, and good friend of Michael's, Bob, aka Tarus52. Bob has followed Michael for many years, won the Flying V contest MB had with a CD release, and is keeping me in the loop regarding future plans. There is great sadness today throughout the Blues community. There will be a tribute at the upcoming Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival, featuring Bernard Allison.  There will be lots of tears that day.    Cathy

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

The Varmints on 10radio will also be commemorating Michael next Sunday.

I also need to thank Bob, because he turned Cathy on to Michael and she turned me on. I was sold from the moment I heard Empty Promises for the first time. I am also thrilled and honored to see that my 'last video' has gone viral (by my standards wink ) with over 600 hits in less than a day. cool

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

I really hate this. I've been a Michael fan for probably just about as long as I've been Joe fan. Really loved his playing and his singing. Unfortunately I never got around to seeing him play. My condolences go out to his family and friends and to George as well. RIP Michael.

I was wondering about you, Deez, since Michael was a local boy for you. I'm sad that you never got to see him. Please keep spreading the word as there is a new cd ready for issue in June or July. Also, please keep an eye on your local media for me, and maybe come and post links to any additional information or commemorative details. Thanks, buddy. wink

Thanks George,i'am totality devastated by Michael's passing.Michael had invited my friend Allan & me to come to the King Biscuit Festival in AK this fall and we were supposed to stay with him & have backstage passes.Allan & i were looking forward to this show & spending some quality time with Michael & Wayne.I already miss Michael more than you can imagine & will always treasure my time spent with Michael. The guitar i won from him will always remind me of him & that big smile he would get when he was playing.

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

From Michael's FB page:

    Bobbie Burks
I would like to say THANK YOU for all of the posts, texts, and phone calls that I have not answered. I want you all to know that I am getting them but can barely function and trying to communicate with people is a real struggle. My Husband would be slowly shaking his head at me and telling me "Now, Lil Red just relax and do what choo gotta do. You stronger than you think." What he would have forgotten is that I drew my strength from him. He was my every breath. No matter how far away he was. God truly blessed me the night Michael K Burks sat down at my table and introduced himself. I giggled because of course I knew who he was. By the end of the evening he told me that we were going to be a couple from then on out. And we were. God, please take care of my big teddy bear. I wasn't ready to give him up, but thank you for letting me have him for 9 1/2 blessed years·

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

This is sad news. I was hoping I'd get to see him live at some point. He was in Dallas this past December, but unfortunately I couldn't make it that night.

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

Nice touch with the signature, Cathy. I'll join you for now. sad

Edit - there is now a FB memorial page here - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Michael- … 0219378459

And this from Bobbie -

I would like to thank everyone for the enormous outpouring of love for my husband. Thank all of you for the kind words posted about him, for sharing your memories, for the text and phone calls that I haven't answered but please know I am receiving and appreciating everyone of them. I know everyone wants to know about services and memorials, but right now I can't think much beyond the moment. I am in Atlanta now making arrangements to get my baby back to Arkansas. I will be letting all of you know plans as soon as I know them.

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

Thanks for the updates George and Cathy. I was randomly the first view of your excellent video. It captured the essence of what we all loved about him. I too shed a tear watching and remembering. His stellar soul and music will be his legacy. Damn, so young!

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

I consider it a labor of love, Rick. I am humbled at all the reactions from people who got turned on to Michael by Cathy or me, and I truly wish that the 'last video' was not attracting so many hits for the wrong reason.

In case it wasn't blatantly obvious, I remember telling Cathy a couple of years ago, 'You know, when I think about it, Michael is #2 with a bullet in my personal pantheon of beloved musicians.'

Apologies to all those who are not MB fans and who therefore think that I've been going OTT here.

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

no apology needed AH, I knew the name but had not listened to anything. You created a new fan here, just sorry it had to happen like this.

Re: RIP Michael K Burks

Thanks to our vortex1 for uploading this superb professional quality film from Morrisville, Pa. in July 09. It's nearly half an hour long and features Michael talking about his childhood and youth, as well as lots of great music. Highly recommended for anyone who'd like to know a bit more about this wonderful musician - and man.
