Hola! And welcome to the forum! Why don't you flesh out your intro a little and tell us where you're from, how did you hear about Joe, have you been to any of his shows etc.
Remember to post early and post often!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Welcome from a massive Joe's psychofan!

So, you've been frisked at the door - all seems kosher - welcome - what would you like to know about Joe and his music ?

Re: Welcome from a massive Joe's psychofan!

I always wondered about what happened with Joe after Bloodline. I know he had those vocal lessons, made some bands here and there, was signed to SONY for a couple of time I believe, then it happened he got kicked, and all that stuff... But it's all so... mystical I have to say. There are just a very few photos, videos and informations from that time...

Do you guys know if Miss You, Hate You music video was on TV? On such stations like VH1 or MTV?

Thanks for a warm welcome.

Re: Welcome from a massive Joe's psychofan!

Joe was on a Sony subsidiary for a short time, had Tom Dowd produce his stellar first solo release (2000), Sony dropped him pretty insultingly quick, Joe and management took the bull by the horns themselves from there, jbonamassa.com was spawned and continues here to this day!

Yes, the Miss You, Hate You video did air.  Not surprisingly, I never saw it, but seeing it with the original band lineup in person in 2000 was more effective for me than the video would have been had I seen it on television.  Sony support and promotion sucked, and Warren Haynes' If Heartaches Were Nickels became the de facto fan favorite album and live feature cut, and the launching pad of an intensely involved grass roots fan base support network (yes, social media before the term existed really), including an utterly amazed fan starting a popular fan website site which (though defunct) helped cross-pollinate itself and the jbonamassa.com original website into what we have today.  Genius management tactics have also certainly helped propel the Joe Bonamssa"brand" to great heights, although still with a ways to go to becoming a household name, but certainly getting stronger and closer to that in leaps and bounds.

Story time?! Stick around. Much of the early stuff is "had to be there", but we've got fans who go back 20+ years, so there's plenty of brains to pick.

Thank you very much. You seem to be there when Joe made his first solo steps. That's interesting smile

Re: Welcome from a massive Joe's psychofan!

Welcome to the forum.  As you must know, the live DVD of A New Day Yesterday was recorded in a pretty small place in Fort Wayne, Indiana, back in 2001.  (I remember taking a road trip long ago to see Joe in Fort Wayne, at a Hot Dog Festival--or maybe a BBQ rib fest--of all things.)  And since you mentioned Bloodline, you've probably seen this on YouTube, but in case not:

There's really nothing mystical about Joe's career.  He's been putting in the effort to reach this point, ever since he was 4.  When you've got talent and a goal, even at that tender age, not much can stop you.  wink

When Bloodline didn't make it past one album, Joe was still a pup, mind you.  Knowing the way he talks about his parents keeping him in line, even as they took him to play early solo gigs, but then had him home in time for bed and school the next day, I would imagine Joe was basically busy with finishing high school, and practicing, practicing, practicing.

The wikipedia article on Joe is a decent source of further info, if you've never seen it.

On Joe's Planet Rock radio show of a week ago, he revisited learning to tour from Ian and Martin (and co.) while opening for Jethro Tull...those would have been epic shows.  Wonder if anyone here ever caught one?  All I've seen is references and Joe playing with them on YouTube vids.

FWIW, I once saw Ian and company touring for "Too old to rock and roll, too young to die"--one of many Tull shows I've seen over the years.  But back then, Joe pretty much had just been born--or was about to be.  (I was in college, at the time [1977].  Boy, some recollections just make one feel old.)

Thanks for sharing the No Slack link.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Welcome from a massive Joe's psychofan!

Well, I call myself psychofan because Joe's music literally changed my life and there's not a single day without a song from Bon. It's dangerous I think because since I discovered him, I stopped listening to 60' and 70' music and now I listen only to him and some similar guys like Philip Sayce or Davy Knowles... I haven't listened to Pink Floyd, Yes, Gary Moore or Eric Clapton for a while now! Shame on me...

Listening to the others actually makes you enjoy Joe even more. Don't give the others up. Plenty of time left for burnout.
