I don't have one but played one a few years ago. It was amazing. The headstock was slightly different but they are really close replicas of les pauls and play amazing. The one i played was from about 81 and it sounded fantastic. It had aged really well. My friend wouldn't part with it at the time although i tried to tempt him and he still uses it as his main guitar to this day.
Hi
I got on and its a killer guitar.Sound and plays amazing, and it is really close to the original gibson les paul
If you can buy one,i say do it:)
From what I played it felt better than some of the les Paul's I have played. Take some pictures if you can please? Would be really interested in seeing it
Grecos and Tokais from the 70's and early 80's are a no-brainer. Get one! I have a 1974 Greco Firebird and it is a tone monster.
I have an early 90's Burny Randy Rhoads edition, had it imported from Japan, its a great gigging axe and a worthy back up to my R8 but I do think there is a bit of "snake oil" surrounding the jap copies.
I have owned several. Still own a pre-lawsuit Electra Omega, and just picked up a 1979 Epi Genesis. No snake oil there. Superb build quality on par with Norlins and Fenders (surpassing it in some cases) from the same period. At worst you will not like the pickups (I feel the same about stock pickups in Gisbons and Fenders from the 70's until now), but the wood build is quite fantastic.
Yes the old Japan-copy guitars are good quality......I think they are really making a comeback ....go for it especially if the price is right!
