Not to steal your thread Curby but watching Eric's tribute to Wes Montgomery reminded me of Lee Ritenour's Wes Bound CD. It's a pretty awesome recording for those times when one's in the mood for that kind of music.

Thanks for responding Stu.  I was a big fan of Lee back in the day.  I checked out his Wes tribute and thought it pretty good too.  My only problem with it is it's got that smooth jazz sound that you'd find riding an elevator.  I prefer listening to the real deal where it has that edginess to it. 
Eric's song though is just plain fascinating.  I bought Ah Via Musicon when it came out 22 years ago and "East Wes" was the standout song on a very good album.  Remember we had just lost SRV and for some reason this album comforted me.  To be honest the song could've easily be a tribute to Stevie as well.  Sometimes I'm amazed at the number of great guitar players from my generation and EJ's a deserving guitar hero.

I agree, WesBound is a bit too smooth and elevator-esque at times. Speaking of tributes to Stevie, ever hear I remember Stevie by Andy Timmons? It's off his Ear-X-Tacy CD and is an awesome tribute....

I'll check it out.  Funny you mentioning Andy Timmons as he is from my hometown in Indiana and went to school with my son's golf coach.  I had a pleasant conversation with his Dad (I think) a few years ago.  Andy's very good, but I.m not a big fan of shred guitar playing.

EJ pretty much plays smooth jazz and jazzy cover interpretations . Brilliantly played but hardly rocking or bluesy. He also likes his bassman to be one of the jazz type that takes off on esoteric solos. He's not much of a singer so I think he concentrates on instrumentals.
