Topic: What happened to Eric Gales

He just disappeared off the circuit it seemed?
Is something going on?

Re: What happened to Eric Gales

He is alive and well, just has not had any major concert bookings in the last month or so. He played a couple of shows in Minnesota in Nov and Dec. He is now preparing to join the Experience Hendrix tour, although he does not appear on their current artist list, at least not as of last week. He says he plans to do all of the dates currently scheduled. As far as a new release, I have not heard that he and Varney are working on anything presently.

Re: What happened to Eric Gales

He sat in with Matt Schofield Sat. night in SoCal. Lots of guitar players clear their schedules this time of year to hang out @ the NAMM convention in Anaheim, Ca.

Re: What happened to Eric Gales

He is due to headline at the Marquee in Corona, Ca. with Darrell Mansfield and others on Feb. 11. I hope to attend. My buddies 7th Sons are selling tix for the Blues Slingers Ball. http://7thsons.com/7thSons_shows_tickets.htm Anyone else in Socal up for this gig? It's an all day event but we'll probably run up for dinner and the show headliners.

Re: What happened to Eric Gales

nice clip here from NAMM, Eric and Tomo playing around with a little jazzy sound with some pretty crazy chord changes. My fingers hurt just watching him.

Re: What happened to Eric Gales

My son told me yesterday that he is now on tour with Lauren Hill, for 7 or 8 dates leading into the Experience Hendrix Tour which starts March 6th. Rather strange pairing there, I don't know if her guitarist went AWOL or got sick or what. I can't wait to see a clip or two, should be something from Jan 28. He'll have to tone it down a little for her brand and band.

Re: What happened to Eric Gales

this is happening, from last Sat night in Cal with a nice tribute to Whitney Houston. I swear I knew what he was going to play before it started, this is the jazzy Tejas swing number from Transformation. Blistering is about right. If you don't have the CD, this is not like any other tunes on it.

Re: What happened to Eric Gales

That is a good one Dave. Son and I have every release he has made, and this one is very special with Eugene, and Little Jimmy King before his death. Truth be known, Little Jimmy (Manuel) was just as good a guitarist as Eric at that time, maybe better. If you look on the back of the CD you will see Eric studying what Manuel is playing, trying to figure it out.
Eric was reunited with Eugene at last years Memphis Hot Wing Festival, they included B Miles "Them Changes" which was stellar.
Others to try out if you don't have them:

Eric Gales Band
Picture of a Thousand Faces
Crystal Vision
Psychedlic Underground
That's What I Am
The Story of My Life

Re: What happened to Eric Gales

I wasn't sure myself Gary, had to look it up. If you were to meet his twin brother, you would see Little Jimmy in the flesh, I think they are of the identical twin variety. Daniel, in honor of his twin, pronounces his name Danuel. He is not a musician, but is a very deep and strange man.

Re: What happened to Eric Gales

talked to Eric briefly last night, just trying to get an update on what he's working on in studio. He is recording for a new release with Doug Pinnick (Kings X) on bass, and Thomas Pridgen from The Mars Volta on drums. I'm not sure if he said whether Mike Varney will produce this or not, but suspect that will be the case. He sounded well, maybe a little tired if anything, but has continued to stay away from the dummy dust. No date set yet for this to come out, that I know of.
