Topic: Living in the USA

hey everyone!

Very random question but I've always dreamed of living in the USA someday..I'm only 17 now but I was just wondering, hypothetically, where are good places for a young/mid 20s person to live with good job opportunities and good music scene - cities, towns etc.

Thankyou:)

Re: Living in the USA

Still trying it, probably too old now. Having a house there doesn't help. Great music SW Florida though around Fort Myers. If you find the secret let me know. Ex cop and college lecturer doesn't do it...

Re: Living in the USA

southern California, where Joe lives. I would say Memphis because it's a great music scene, but I would not want to live there. Chicago or Nashville might be other good options. Also Austin,TX.

Re: Living in the USA

I would say Austin Tx.  The live music capital of the U.S.A. from country, to blues to metal and everything in between.  No state income taxes, a first rate university, with an Ok football program, high tech companies like Dell and AMD and damn fine barbeque.

Memphis is also a great music town as is Nashville ( if you're into the country music thing"

Chicago is indeed an awesome place to live. Great music/clubs, awesome restaurants, museums, sports teams, beaches (great in the summer), bike paths if you like to bicycle, parks, zoos, fishing...well, you get the idea.

Re: Living in the USA

wow thanks for all the great replies my friends!

They all sound like heaven on Earth coming from a kid who's grown up in a village in the middle of nowhere haha!

It's a long way off yet but Chicago sounds like a wonderful place and so does Austin..I will look them up!

I've went to NY recently and I loved every minute of it

Re: Living in the USA

Close to me are Philly and Baltimore.  Both have a rather large music scene, but I wouldn't really care to live in Baltimore.  NYC is a quick train ride from Philly too, and Bmore is straight down 95, which is convenient for some things like out of town concerts and such.  Problem with places that have a large music scene is everybody is doing it..  I'd try and look for something that offers substantial job opportunities and living arrangements first and foremost.  Hopefully music will work its way in it for you as well. -S

NYC, Chicago, & Austin have a lot to offer, but visit them in the dead of winter or summer, then visit the San Francisco Bay Area, any time of year and enjoy the weather as well as the world class music scene that rivals anything the others have to offer.

Re: Living in the USA

I have lived in the Chicago area all my life.I lived in downtown Chicago for a while. Its a great city like Bill said.Music is always good.Blues, rock, anything you want. The lakefront is magnicant. Its a big city with a more down to earth feel.A diverse economy. Is it perfect? No.But a place to consider.Pro athletes stay here after their careers are over quite a bit.Its a diverse culture because its a melting pot of all nationalities. The winters can be a bit brutal at times.Being centrally located it is a transportation hub as well. The architecture is world class. There that's my commercial.Tag it on to Bills endorsement. If you ever want to visit give me a shout.

P.S. If you like cheese,we are close to Wisconsin and the home of Roy the famous forum Bluesman. You could visit his neck of the woods as well. But just don't let him kidnap you to Green Bay lol.You might become a Packer fan and your life will be over as you know it.You will be wearing cheese slice hats and green and gold stockings and kissing mooses lol.

lol It's a damn 3-4 hour drive to the Spud from here. Actually, LA has a better music scene than San Diego, but San Diego is a far better place to live Pete. He's welcome to join me anytime for the workouts. Nothing like watching scenery while getting fit. wink

Re: Living in the USA

Austin, Texas would probably be my choice cause that's where real music's being made these days.  It's also a growing town in a state that's very proud of its heritage.

Re: Living in the USA

Gary, thankyou for the informative reply! I'll definitely let you know if I head that direction someday

Pete and Rick I will have a look at San Diego for sure!

Austin seems to be a common choice for everyone here...I will also look at Nashville and Birmingham

Re: Living in the USA

Sorry guys.....I have to agree with J Dawg. Nor Cal is the place to be! I've lived in the Chicago area, as well as outside Detroit, and while it is pretty there, the summers are humid and the winters are damn cold and miserable. Out here, the weather is always bearable. Plus we have the mountains nearby as well as the beach. You can literally snow ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon. The S.F. Bay area has a thriving music scene as well.

P.S. you can buy cheese anywhere!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?
