Topic: My favorite amp.... What's yours?

Over the past 30 years of playing guitar I've seen a lot of guitars and amps come and go....and yes I have my regrets about selling a few of them.  Lately though I think I've finally found the amps that really inspire me... The wide panel fender deluxe...  I'll admit I have a few requirements....they must have the original transformers, speaker, cab, tweed, grill cloth.  Don't care about the necessary cap job...  Man, I love them...just plug straight in and use the volume knob on my guitar.

What's your "go to" amp of choice???

Re: My favorite amp.... What's yours?

Can't say I have a Go To amp.  I've only played for 14 years but I've changed amps just as much as guitars over that time.  I'm currently using a Blues Jr. that I've modified.  My 2 favorites over the years was a Custom Vibrolux Reverb, and a JCM 800 50 watt head.  Got rid of the Custom Vibrolux Reverb because the reverb unit had something wrong with it and didn't feel like fixing it (bad idea getting rid of that amp.)  Got rid of the Marshall because I was using the custom vibrolux reverb as a speaker cabinet but decided it was a big amp and really was more power then I needed.  The Blues Jr. is small and light easy on my back which for a 30 year old is in pretty bad shape.  So I chose self preservation over tonal bliss.

Re: My favorite amp.... What's yours?

I'm glad you brought up amp weight.  That's another reason why I love the vintage tweed fenders (and many other vintage combos for that matter)....they sound fantastic, can be had at a reasonable price, and are lightweight.  I've also started checking out some of the other "oldies"....magnatone, gibson, supro, valco, etc...  All are so cheap when compared to the "boutique" amps of today that cost so much more and are meant to capture the tone of those same vintage amps....  Not only do they cost more but they weigh significantly more....with one exception...the evil robot amp that Fretted Americana came out with in collaboration with Phil X.

Seems like a great amp....just not at that price point when compared to other vintage amps that can be had that sound similar.  I almost pulled the trigger but couldn't justify the cost...

Re: My favorite amp.... What's yours?

By the way...I did a quick check on evil bay....there are some really nice vintage silverface and blackface vibrolux reverbs out there.

Great amps...I'd love to own one at some point.  Do you have to crank it to get great overdrive tones?

I believe they just brought the twinmaster back too which is another cool amp.

Fender '57 Twin.  Don't own one but I've played through many.

A reissue or the real deal?

Re: My favorite amp.... What's yours?

Never had a go to amp...they are all the colours that make up a rainbow.

Always liked either a Plexi-voiced amp or little tweed style tonemaster on full.

Re: My favorite amp.... What's yours?

I have a Fargen Mini Plex that is pretty cool.  I use it to get those marshallesque tones....

I'd love to get one of those. Missed out on one for less than half price a few years back...just couldn't justify it at the time!

My Orange Rocker 30 and my Mule amp are it!  I was obsessed with Orange amps and the rocker 30 does everything I need.  The Mule gives me the vintage Bassman early Marshall tones.

Holy Cow...that's quite a rig!  What if you could only have one amp...which would you choose and why?

My 2550 Jubilee head and cabinet that I bought new 25 years ago this upcoming May. Still looks and plays brand new. Never gigged it, always kept in the house. I love it.

that would be my Carol Ann JB 100 sn 0001, the why is a long story it is because of who I got it from and the story that led up to me purchasing it. I will never let it go unless the person I bought it from wanted it back. Also it is a KILLER amp
