Topic: Hello from Seattle

I actually joined the forum about a year and 1/2 ago. I finally decided to stop lurking and start posting, so here is my intro.

I discovered Joe back about 10+ years ago when I walked out of a Guitar Center store with less money in my pocket, some cool new gear and a lot of explaining to do to my wife. When I opened one of my bags in the car, I found a surprise free 2 or 3 track music CD all shrinked wrapped in a simple promo sleeve for some product (I forget) with a guy's name on it that I couldn't pronounce. I had never heard of Joe before, but heck, free is free, and I love free stuff. I plugged it into the CD player in my car and that is all she wrote.

I've been a fan ever since. I still have that demo CD.

I think I have every CD Joe has produced, including the old "New Day Yesterday Live" that came with the bonus free DVD show from Indiana that I wish I could get now since I loaned the DVD to a friend and he decided he liked it more than me.

Anyway, Hello. You can call me Willy or whatever you want.

Hey Willy, cool intro, thank you. Welcome! You obviously have good instincts going by your instant reaction to that demo. I think that's the one thing that unites us all here - that instant hit, the first time, when you just know that this is it, that elusive sound that you've been missing without knowing it, that sound that lights a spark....

I guess you're at the Seattle show tonight. Be sure to tell us all about it.

RIP Iron Man

Rock On and keep the Faith

Hi Willy, glad to hear from you. If I am not mistaken that dvd came with the limited edition first run of So, Its Like That release. 25000 of them with the free A New Day Yesterday live dvd. Fortunately you can get the dvd seperately in Joe's store. GEtting back that red disc to complete the SILT collectible is a more pricey venture.

I'm interested to see if you have a Joe cd you prefer, and whatever else you feel like posting

I plan to repurchase the separate DVD, but I plan to work on getting the original back from my friend. You are correct that it came the SILT limited run.

My current favorite JB CD is definitely The Ballad of John Henry (Blues Deluxe being a close 2nd). For me, that is the album where I believe Joe finally "came into his own". Story of a Quarryman and The Ballad of John Henry, for me, are 2 of Joe's best produced tracks. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but there is some secret sauce in those tracks that are magical.

And from the Blues Deluxe CD... Blues Deluxe and Woke up Dreaming. And Burning Hell. Ah, heck, that whole CD kicks butt.

Sloe Gin is another great CD for me. The title song, along with the remake of Bad Company's Seagull are my fav's. That album is much more mellow and shows a completely different side to Joe's playing.

Another great one for me is Black Rock. While the production of the recording seems different (something with the mix levels), the songs on that album are like butter to my ears. Blue & Evil is beautifully dark, Steal Your Heart Away has a great composition with just enough tension that won't let the mind rest. Spanish Boots is reminiscent of those Zepplin tunes of yesteryear covered with signature Joe gravy. Love it.

While many folks focus on Joe as a great guitar player (which he absolutely is), for me it is much more. Song selection, vocals and production quality with a great band make one great package. Having been in the music playing business myself for 25+ years, I know how rare it is to see such a great production. While Joe makes it look so easy on stage, I know there is a lot of hard work that goes into creating such beautiful music. I can't wait to see what's in store for Joe in 2012.
