Re: Joe- PLEASE tell us about the Rory strat....

Curious: Did Joe load it with 11s?  I know when I move from 10s to 11s on my Strat I need to adjust my rod.  Certainly the family stipulates some guidelines for making adjustments?

So the Gallagher Family shows up at sound check to let Joe play Rory's Strat and he decides to play Cradle Rock & Midnight Blues, so when was the last time Joe and the band played those songs?  5 to 6 months perhaps longer?  And then in the span of a couple of hours he plays both songs in concert so very well!  By God that's musicianship!

It would take me two days to get Smoke On The Water down well enough to play it live and Joe plays these two songs like they are part of his set.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

They are on this tour, and Cradle Rock has been in for a while longer than Midnight Blues.

How about Joe playing BB's original Lucille....or freddie King's 355......or (if they ever find it) Clapton's Beano LP!  cool That would be almost unbearably cool....

I doubt it- 10's on a strat feel pretty much the same as 11's on a Lester due to the differing scale lengths and the floating trem on the strat. I have 10-46's on a strat and 11's- 52's on a les paul and I can't tell them much apart.

Re: Joe- PLEASE tell us about the Rory strat....

another great video from Pete. Last time I saw that guitar was (I think) about 30 years ago in Guildford Civic Hall.

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:

I think that Joe playing 250+ shows a year for several years (along with his +30yrs of playing)

He could pickup a cardboard box with 1 string on it and make is sound magical.

I picked up the Rory double DVD and am listening to it.. Rory’s good.. but I think I could listen to Joe more.

Re: Joe- PLEASE tell us about the Rory strat....

I can't wait to see Joe's reply (assuming he has time).

Someday...people will be saying, "oh man, did you see (new young gun) playing the Bonamassa Les Paul"....  That will be cool and brings to mind an interesting story...

Not long after Joe made the switch to the Gibby's I had the chance to buy one of his custom shop strats...  In fact ANY OF US could have bought it.  It was at one of the best stores around named Fat Sound Guitars.  Stu, the owner, had the guitar and a letter from Joe, etc...  I really regret not snapping that guitar up....man do I regret it....and what's more it was priced right....something sick like $2800 or maybe $3200....

Are you referring to the black clapton strat that Joe used? I remember that being up for sale. Twice! The gold sparkle custom shop strats were not Joes!!!!!!!

No it was a two tone burst with a maple neck.  I tried to see if it was in the "sold archive" but alas it was not...  I'll talk to Stu to see if he still has the photos and documentation and I'll post them.

Re: Joe- PLEASE tell us about the Rory strat....

Awesome. Good to see Rory's strat making music again. Even better in the hands of another brilliant and talented individual.
On another note, consider taking the time to sign the petition to induct Rory into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. I think he deserves it.

Get Rory in the hall of fame
