Topic: NGD!!! Gibson Les Paul R9

I hope this isn't bad form taking away from stevebonamassive new guitar day but I too have finally got my R9 after saving, waiting and searching for for many years.  I'm now the owner of a 2007 Gibson Les Paul R9 Aged by Tom Murphy.  I am not a big fan of aged or relic produced guitars but this one just caught my eye due to the unique grain in the maple cap.  The acoustic unplugged tone is good and the weight is somewhere near 9.5lbs.  Tom Murphy only aged the top, both sides of the headstock, the neck heel at the body and the cut away.  There are several dings in the finish so it won't hurt so much when I do it for the first time myself.  I've played through my Fender Twin Reissue and Marshall and the tone is wonderful, but I am really waiting for my Marshall YJM100 to arrive so I can blow the roof off.

Congratulations.  Enjoy!  Gibson Historics are AMAZING guitars.  My 2001 R8 STILL thrills me every time I play it!  Thanks for sharing the pics!

Re: NGD!!! Gibson Les Paul R9

ohhh Pretty ..

and do what Joe says to do with guitars:

Beat them up, bond with them and take them out on the gig. Its what the whole purpose of the guitar was to start.

Spider,
This one took patience, the tax man and ex-wife's lawyer to make it happen at the right price.  We grunts spent enough time in the mud so eventually something good was bound to happen.  And back at ya!

AD3THREE,
I too am a plain top fan but sadly the only two I came across over the past year or so were not to my liking.  The fret wire made the necks seem like they had a 20 degree radius.  You can really feel the difference in a Custom Shop made guitar.

I played hooky from work today to finalize the deal and now after playing all day long my fingers are raw.

Thanks all it really makes me happy to know others know the joy of a new guitar day.  Of course my wife just rolled her eyes and said "another one?"

Re: NGD!!! Gibson Les Paul R9

Great top, it's got a bit of a Pearly vibe goin'

Re: NGD!!! Gibson Les Paul R9

I love crazy flame tops like that! And the color is astounding. I've played a Murphy aged, and wanted one so badly! Someday when I'm not a poor college student and have an income.  cool

Yes my friend, patience is something we've learned. That's what makes us who and what we are. Patience.

BOINNNGGG!!!!

I traded a Les Paul for a  '72 Marshall Superlead head last week, then sold the Marshall cuz I'm on the hunt for an R9.   That one woulda served the purpose fo' sho'!

Re: NGD!!! Gibson Les Paul R9

Nice!

Re: NGD!!! Gibson Les Paul R9

Hope the YJM does it's job and is reliable...I'm hearing some terrible stories about the AFD..and both amps have a lot in common.
C'mon Marshall...you're now the Gibson of the amp world...and I definitely don't mean that in a good way.
