Re: Laney VC30 212

I had the LC30 112 or it might have been the LC15 can't remember.  It was basic Class A Tube amp stuff, 2 EL84's 3 12AX7's.  I liked it, the foot switch had the option between switching from a clean channel to a distortion channel, it also had a foot switchable reverb that would allow you to turn the reverb on and off.  The clean channel had a bright switch that was very nice for brighter tones like country.  I would say its voiced for Vox.  The distortion channel had a decent amount of distortion but not like a Marshall.  It was a more fender style distortion like their hot rod amps, not the best but effective.  Mine had a damaged input jack so I always had to use the low impedance jack and that cut out some of my gain a little.  Darn plastic jacks!

Over all I would say I was happy with the amp and it was quite good at getting the Yardbirds, or early zeppelin Page stuff.  It was really nice to use the clean channel and push the amp hard thats when it delevered the good!  I think this amp is good but you might be able to find better for this price range.

As far as FX Loops these are pretty standard things in most amps today.  You plug a pedal such as a delay into the effects loop and it bypasses the front end of the amp.  So if your delay has a level on the pedal and your in the distortion channel you don't have to worry about hitting that delay pedal and boosting the distortion with your pedal.  You would use this FX Loop for Modulation pedals such as Reverb, Delay, Flange, Tremolo, Phaser, and Chorus.  I've heard of some people putting distortion pedal in as well but in my 13 years of play I've found distortion pedals are not the place for FX Loops.  But thats an opinion.  I do like to use boost pedals in the FX Loop if I'm using the distortion channel on an amp as this boost the Power amp side of the amp and not the preamp which would just make my distortion higher.  I hope this helped and let us know what you go with!
