Topic: No sound from amplifier!!

Hey everyone:)

OK so my amp (DSL401) was working fine the other day no problem...I turn it on today and the sound has gone.

I have checked all the cables and pedals and have found nothing wrong. The weird thing is that when my TS808 is turned on, and I turn the amp up very high, I am getting a tiny bit of sound from it.

Is this a valve problem? Do i need to buy some more?

thanks !:)

Re: No sound from amplifier!!

Check the HT fuse, if it switches on but no sound then it's more than likely a fuse possibly caused by a valve.

thanks for the reply...so what do you think the solution is?

thanks!

Re: No sound from amplifier!!

Same thing happened to me a few months back and I think it was RickB, or someone on here (I forget) said it was probably the fuse.  AND..It was..  Took it to a repair shop and had it replaced.

I had power to the amp, but basically Zero volume, unless I turned it ALL the way up and even then I had very little volume.  Same as you're experiencing.

Re: No sound from amplifier!!

If you want to go the whole route before the tech, here's the deal. Is there any burned smell? if so, tech time.
Pull the fuses and see if any are blown. Make sure the amp is unplugged!
If there is a blown fuse, put the same value back in and try it. Turn all the gain pots down first. If this fixes the problem it is all good. Sometimes fuses just get old and pop.
If it blows right away, unplug, pull all the valves, put another fuse and try again. If it blows again, tech time. If not, start by putting in the valves from the preamp up to the power section one at a time, turning it on each time to see if the fuse blows. This may find the bad valve, if that is the problem. If you aren't comfortable doing this, tech time. Good luck.

Re: No sound from amplifier!!

Change the fuse wink sometimes they do just pop for no apparent reason. If it goes instantly or repeatedly them the amp needs servicing.

Re: No sound from amplifier!!

thankyou all so much for the replies! I'll look at the fuse later on when I get home ... it'd make sense that the fuse is the problem because we had electricians in the other day switching the electricity on/off all day!

Re: No sound from amplifier!!

feel embarassed to ask this but do you guys mean check the fuse in the plug of the power cable?

thanks!

No, in the amp.
