Re: Matt Schofield

I just got it this past weekend but have not had time to listen to all of it. What I have heard sounded quite good. He really pushes all my "blues buttons" so to speak, great voice.

Got Matt's new album last week: new label, new band (same ol' Johnny Henderson though).

If the air-con is bust in your car, or you don't have it - by this CD and put it on - it's that cool.

We are seeing Matt next Thursday. Really looking forward to hearing some of the new songs, especially "Red Dragon" He seems to be showing a lot more emotion in his voice on this new album, which I really like.

Re: Matt Schofield

Just discovered him Doh !!! Love the new CD

Re: Matt Schofield

Witnessed another excellent show by Matt last night. Those solos of his are just out of this world! He played a number of songs off his new album "Far As I Can See" Was hoping he'd do Red Dragon, but he played these really long versions of both "Where Do I Have To Stand" and "Hindsight" that I think used up his time. His drummer, Jordan John,  sang on "Got To Be Some Changes Made".

great work Natasha, enjoying all of them. As much as I like him, wish he would spring for a bass player. Who does he think he is, the Doors? lol He and Tal Wilkenfeld would make such a cute couple on stage. smile I imagine she would want some big bucks to participate, if she was even available. One can dream, can't we?

Glad you like them smile I was surprised he didn't have a bass player with him this time since he had said for the new album he'd be a quartet. I guess he prefers traveling as a trio, or maybe the guy couldn't do the tour. Here are the last two. I'm not putting up the first one since my view for the first song was pretty obstructed. Fortunately no one showed up at the table right next to ours so I moved over and had a pretty great view for the rest of the show. So cool to have Matt going off on a solo right smack in front of you. Love seeing musicians in small venues.

Re: Matt Schofield

Matt Schofield breezed through Newcastle last night, on the 2nd of only 3 UK dates on this mini-tour. (Some wag would say his solos are longer than the tour…..)

Once again though, absolutely superlative show from Matt, Johnny, Carl & new face (but old friend) Jamie Little behind the drum kit. This was Matt’s first outing here with the new album, so no surprise the majority of the set was drawn from Far As I Can See, Oakville Shuffle, Getaway, Hindsight, The Day You Left & From Far Away in no particular order; Where Do I Have To Stand from the previous album as well as a few old favourites for the Cluny crowd. The psychic bond between Matt & Johnny is the stuff of legend, but the band is now locked tight as a 4 piece with Carl’s inclusion on bass and Jamie’s drumming was phenomenal.

And crowd it was; this may just be a small tour, but Matt’s picked his venues well; always a good draw at The Cluny and over 120 turned out for this mid-week master class of swing-blues. Already locked & loaded for November.

Have to say, great opening set from local guy Johnny Dickinson - a friend’s just told me that he’s just getting back on his feet from serious illness; based on what I saw from this set, an awesome talent that we want to see more of.

Re: Matt Schofield

Thanks for the heads up Banshee! The minute I saw Matt was coming through NorCal I grabbed a pair of tix for the City Winery show in Napa. Can't wait to see him again for the 3rd time and might catch one of the other shows too. I wonder if Kevin Hayes will be on drums stateside as on previous tours? Will have to wait n see.

Re: Matt Schofield

You're welcome J Dawg; happy to spread the word. Had a great show on Wednesday, the newer material sounding really, really cool. Bit of a surprise here with a change of face behind the drum kit, but Jamie was superb, really got into the swing.

Re: Matt Schofield

Saw Matt Tue. night and was blown away just like the previous times. Got lucky since Kevin Hayes sat in on drums for this show only which just sweetened the pot. I caught Matt just before the show and asked if See Me Through was in the set list, he said no, but I could work it in there for ya and work it in he did. One of my favorite songs he does and the sparse, but appreciative crowd also agreed! The setlist looked pretty much like Natasha posted with the addition of See Me. The City Winery was the nicest and sound friendliest club I've seen Matt play in yet and the food was topnotch as you'd expect in Napa Valley. Picked up the new CD and had wry witted chat again with Matt's Dad Ian who lives in the Sierra foothills and dabbles in the wine industry himself. He was handling driving duties while the band was on the west coast swing. A great night of blues and I pleaded with Matt not to take 2 years to get back to Ca. next time. BTW, the house played Blues Deluxe by JB pre-show, nice touch.

Re: Matt Schofield

This is probably not the place to say it but Matt Schofield is the guitarist I want to listen to most. I get the same thrill listening to Matt now that I did when I first "found" Joe in 2011. I saw Matt twice last year and will be seeing him again later this year. Can't wait!

I know exactly where you're coming from Richard, I wouldn't say most, but I wouldn't want to miss Joe or Matt when they play in my neck of the woods! I spoke with Matt about Joe and he said they have met and Matt thinks Joe's a great guy, but they rarely cross paths with their busy touring schedules. Maybe the planets and their schedules might align one day and seeing them jam together would be mind bogling. It would only be fitting if they played some Robben Ford since he influenced them both!

Re: Matt Schofield

We saw Matt at a free Blues festival in NJ this weekend. Met up with fellow Joe fans Gloria, Brian and Bill T. They had never seen Matt before and were suitably impressed. As I thought they might be. Matt really is a phenomenal player and the solos on his slow blues songs are just out of this world. He is such a laid back and unassuming guy as well. Phil talked with him before the show and told him he was hoping he'd play Red Dragon. Matt said he's found that song hasn't worked as well live, so Phil said how about Oakville Shuffle. Matt responded, that one I can definitely do. He played it as the first song of the show smile

Should've asked for See Me Through. Nice video and just found out on Facebook that Ronnie Smith did some shows back east with Matt. Kevin Hayes shared Ronnie's post thanking Matt & Johnny for letting him join in. Known Ronnie for a few years since he toured with Tommy Castro and now with Volker Strifler. Real nice guy and good drummer! I guess Ronnie was filling time since Volker has been on a short West Coast swing playing with Robben Ford & his brothers.
