Topic: I'm a Bonamasshole!
Hi all!
My name is Brian and I'm from Massachusetts. People from Mass are often called Massholes and since I'm a Bonamassa fan I guess that makes me a Bonamasshole! Seriously though I'm only a jerk sometimes, as I'm originally from the midwest (Chicago) where people are actually nicer.
I've been checking out the forum for a while and the people here seem down to earth so I figured I'd join. Fyi I'm 46, been playing guitar since I was 12, I'm a recording/live sound engineer, and like one of the other recent posters here I too have a degree in music but find myself now working in in the software industry as a SW engineer. I work on a product that some of you musician types may be familiar with, Avid/Digidesign Pro Tools.
Anyway believe it or not despite my background I had not heard Joe Bonamassa until recently. Sure I'd read about him in various guitar magazines over the years but I had no idea how good he really was, not just as a player but as a complete artist and musician. A few weeks ago I was watching some rock festival on Palladium TV and saw Joe play "Just Got Paid" and the rest was history. First, I was like, "Holy Bleeping Bleep" who the bleep was that bad arse guitar player dressed like Jake/Elwood playing the Theremin??
Well once I found out and started doing web searches I found a boatload of YouTube videos. I've been really blown away by not only his playing, which IMO ranks right up there with the greatest players ever, but his overall musicianship too, which IMO is more important to me than how many 64th notes he can play. Then of course I subsequently got turned on to BCC (LOVE THE SECOND ALBUM) and that was it. Now I am telling everybody about him and BCC. And everyone is like Joe Bonamassa who? My wife, who really doesn't like heavy stuff, I made her a mix tape of Joe's lighter stuff, and she loved it! Once I broke her in she even likes his heavy stuff now. I even got her to like Man in the Middle!
Btw, I'm going to the 11/3 show in Boston at the Wang Theater. Great venue. Anyone else here going? I'm thinking about bringing my 52 Tele to have Joe sign. I'd bring it for sure if I knew I could get it signed. Someone said to hang around the tour bus afterwards? Meh. I did some touring back in the day, and back then, we really didn't like dudes hanging around the tour bus, unless they were just dropping off their chicks for a good time!
