Topic: G.A.S. and thinning the herd... sigh
OK, good news/bad news:
1st the good:
GAS struck! I got a KILLER deal on a 2001 SG Supreme in Midnight Blue. These things have rare appointments to an SG, and it was really beat up. Bought it for a steal. Here's a pic of what it looks like new.

This guitar was a "meant to be" moment. I was in Wisconsin, and I cancelled my trip to South Dakota on my Harley. Exhibit A: $$ burning a hole in my pocket. So I started searching my hometown WI Craigslist for Gibsons. Exhibit B: I always check local CL for deals on Gibsons.
It sounds great. It has classic 57 humbuckers in there. Lots of people like burstbuckers - but i gotta say... I won't take these '57's out of this guitar. It had been refretted, and a novice did it... sawed through the binding in places... new nut was installed poorly but not bad enough to rip it out and replace it. Paint is worn of in some spots, but played hard... has some personality, and it definitely helped on the price and "talking with cash."
2nd the bad:
I'm building a nice big collection of USA made guitars, many of them over 10 years old. WHY on earth wouldn't I want to play the living crap out of these guitars? So keeping with that in mind, there are two or three guitars that I rarely play. They are good quality, Korean made, and newer... I figured I could easily sell these to thin the herd.
One is a Jay Turser Les Paul with a bad*ss Serpent inlay... much like a PRS Dragon.
the other is a white ES-335 guitar with gold GFS pickups in it... made by Xaviere (Guitar Fetish)
With the money, I'm expecting to purchase a River Rock Crusher attenuator. This is something I can use EVERY practice, or at EVERY gig. Better musical money invested than some guitars that just collect dust.
I put two of them in the Marketplace section of the forum in case anyone here is interested. I'd be more price friendly to forum members. I'm also going to put them on Craigslist - and if no luck is found I'll put them on eBay.
