Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

Here is the new video. Dig the song. Reminds me of Lenny Kravitz. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/video … e-20121105

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

Nothing against GC,but why it is he talked about as savior of the blues?I have always thought our man Joe had the right stuff for that title. If you look at Joes album sales and live sell outs you would kind of give the nod to him over anyone else right now I think.Just my unbiased opinion! LOL

Savior??  That's why I included the question mark.

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

What a contrast in styles this album has but I am loving it. Album of the year contender.

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

His debut album is number 6 on the Billboards pop charts.

I listened to this album a few days ago, and it's awesome!! So many different styles on one album. Hope I can see him live soon.

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

I bought the new one too....really good, he's plenty talented and diversified.....no savior, but quite entertaining.....selling ALOT of CDs for sure

Shred

P.S....coming to The Fillmore next week, probably sold out by now

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

I've literally been listening to this nonstop for the last week and a half. Let me tell you, if you are just a blues/rock and roll fan, this isn't for you. You'll complain about the hip-hop and rnb tracks, you'll loathe the beat samples on some songs while praising his prolific fretwork on songs like When My Train Pulls In. But if you are a eclectic music lover, this release will blow you away. In an era where bands like The Black Keys and Joe Bonamassa have to work underground and work their fingers to the bone to make any headway in this industry, it is refreshing to see a major label back an artist that is THE real deal, and every bit of hype is totally justified. My only hope is that he can maintain what he's doing and remain as humble as he appears to be. Singing, guitarist, and songwriter, the trifecta.

Got my copy through earlier in the week. Shredit says it exactly as I would. Bet G.C. is something else "Live" though.

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

Mike - Gary is "something else" live. I can attest to that having seen him in London in the summer. Explosive would be my adjective.

He is playing in Sydney on 19 January and I have emailed my mate to tell him he MUST go.

BINGO!!!....I could not agree more, we got a few at work that did NOT enjoy the diversity, to each their own.....really cool music for eveyone, just have to keep an open mind

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

It's the diversity that makes the album.  I have to confess to liking the non-blues songs the best and convinced he's seriously tapping into Shuggie Otis' Inspiration Information.

Cheers Kenny - that's put him on my "drop everything and go see" list.

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

How about this for exposure?

Gary is to be an onstage guest of the Rolling Stones at their 8 December Brooklyn concert. WOW.

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

Gary performed at the 35th Annual Kennedy Center Honors on Dec 2nd as part of a tribute to Buddy Guy.

According to an article I found there was a "medley of “Things I Used to Do,” “I’m Ready” and “Hoochie Coochie Man,” performed by Jimmie Vaughan, along with Gary Clark, Jr."  Other artists who participated in the Buddy Guy tribute: Rob Mathes, Tracy Chapman, Jeff Beck, Beth Hart & Bonnie Raitt.

The broadcast will be Wednesday, Dec. 26 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS.

Re: Gary Clark Jr - Is He The Blues' Savior?

Many congratulations Gary, your album scores 10/10 in the new Classic Rock Mag. Now how about a UK tour please? Not just a solitary London date - which will now probably sell out after this review. A lot of newbies will be interested.
