Re: Strap Locks

I like the Dunlops

Re: Strap Locks

Okay, I've got a stupid question.

How do I install them?

My Bonaburst VOS came with strap locks and I'm wondering if I should install them.  I think I should.

So, how?

Like, I said, a stupid question.

p.s. Perhaps there are no stupid questions, just stupid people that ask questions.  But still..... smile

Re: Strap Locks

Very easy, use a screwdriver to swap them out.

Re: Strap Locks

I use the DiMarzio strap locks...they work very well

Re: Strap Locks

I like this http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--DNP7007SI But at my local music shop I can get this for less then a buck.
Its simple it has 2 parts to it.  you turn the top piece until the hole is matching the back piece.  You put it on your exisiting strap peg after you already put the strap on the guitar.  This fits over it.  Now you take the top piece and rotate it 180 degrees.  It has an egged shaped hole but when you close it up the egg turns into a very tight holding hole that will not come off your peg.  YOUR DONE.  No screw drivers, no mods, and a great product that works!

Re: Strap Locks

I have used these myself and they are ok, but I have had a few fail. Over tie fixed strap licks would be cheaper and much better if you switch straps a lot.

Re: Strap Locks

I prefer Schallers but the Dunlop strap locks that come with the JBLP are just as good. Or, you can use the old tried and true method of the Grolsch beer bottle rubber washer. You can find them at any beer & wine making store or via the internet. Or buy a rack, enjoy the beer and save the washers. smile

Re: Strap Locks

I like Guitar Fetish Guitar Strap Locks.

No hokey little button like the Dunlop's

Re: Strap Locks

Hi All,

Thanks for all the good tips, I like the Schaller strap locks a lot  but the Gibson LP's the screw on the back is bigger than the ones that come with the Schaller locks i guess you would fill it and re tap it??

Thanks,

Re: Strap Locks

I will never use Schaller...twice the little metal insert has actually SNAPPED causing a guitar (one of them was an Ibanez Jem) to smash to the floor...

Dunlops, although plastic...have never had trouble for me...

Nor Grolsch red top pieces...

Re: Strap Locks

Hi everyone,

here is the best tip for installing the Schaller strap locks on the Bonastudio that i found on the forum.
The problem is the Gibson screw is larger than the Schaller.

1. use the Gibson screw.
2. Drill out the Schaller button to fit the screw.
3. now take a dermal and grind head of the screw to fit the Schaller button.
4. you can use the dermal to enlarge the holes in the strap to fit better.

took me less than ten min.

Re: Strap Locks

A Dunlop will go in without any need for drilling or other mods. It won't break like the Schaller either.

Re: Strap Locks

Why all the expense? Here's how it should be done. Put ur strap on the guitar and lock it in place with 2x tight fitting rubber gromets. I have 2x sets of schaller and 1 dunlop. The schaller I had to cover with lock tight as the screws kept undoing the dunlop is easily the best bit it came with my 90's strat. All my other guitars use a rubber gromet to lock the strap on. Unless I could get the same dunlops I wouldn't bother using anything else.

Re: Strap Locks

I have both Schaller and Dunlops.

I was (since the 90's) using Schallers because I liked how they hooked on. Getting the locks on the straps was difficult without cutting the holes bigger. Then you can't take them off and have functional straps. I've never had any serious functionality problems with them. I think the gold on the schallers is nicer than the gold on the dunlops... for what that's worth.

Using the Dunlops, the Locks when on the straps much easier. Also the knobs on the dunlops are bigger and nicer than the Schallers, so if you were using a strap that didn't have straplocks on them, I'd trust them more on the dunlop knob than the schaller knob.

now that i'm using both, I'll only buy Dunlops from now on, but I'll probably keep the schallers on the guitars I have. I also think the dunlops are cheaper in price.

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: Strap Locks

Hi. Nothing wrong with the Epiphone ones that come with the JB les Paul. Just push the straplock through the strap. fasten it on tight with the nut and washer with the open end on the inside of the strap pointing upwards. You then put it below the pin on the guitar and pull up till you hear it click into place. Mine stay on like glue. No problem.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

If you have one strap that you use on multiple guitars you can by just the strap buttons from allparts.com:

http://www.allparts.com/Nickel-Strap-Bu … 82-001.htm

They have nickel, gold and black strap buttons.
