Topic: MXR Custom Badass 78' Distortion

Ok I've been in sorta a buying splurg this month and bought a nice little pedal by MXR.  Its a Custom Badass 78' Distortion I got it on sale this week and cancled my order for a Fulltone 69' MKII.  I preoreded that pedal thinking I would love it but so far all I got was emails that said the same thing you Epiphone Joe Bonamassa owners heard its been back ordered another couple weeks.  So Yesterday I said screw it and started my search for my next overdrive/distortion/Fuzz I was going to add to my bag of tricks.  So after about 200 youtube demos and bugging friends to watch them with me I decided that the best deal for me was this CBA78'D by MXR.  They sound great with anything was my main reason I went with it.  What do you think of it?

Re: MXR Custom Badass 78' Distortion

I don't know anything about the MXR Custom Badass other than from the reviews that I've read and the reviews are real solid.  I would say it's a keeper.

I've also seen/heard good things about the Fulltone Plimsoul and the Fulltown Robin Trower pedals.

Although, when it came to spending my own money I just picked up a Way Huge Green Rhino.  A really amazing overdrive pedal.

YMMV.

A real selling point for me was one of the guys at MXR said he was tired of all these custom pedal makers using old designs and charging $200 all because they changed a couple little things on it.  I don't know if I believe that, but they say this is either modded after a DS-1 boss pedal from 1978 or a Sans Amp Pedal with a mod or 2 themselves.  I heard this pedal in a demo and thats what the guy said.  He compaired it with a Love Pedal Superlead honestly the 78' killed it.  Here is the video I saw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znqhbann … re=related

I just bought one of these and it sounds great sitting in front of my Blackstar HT-5.
