Topic: When the guitar player tries drums...

OK, I am not anywhere CLOSE to Joe on guitar, but I learned I'm even farther from being Tal, Bogie, or Anton Fig for that matter!

Here's a video of my brother (bass player) playing guitar, and me playing drums. You can at least figure out what the songs were, but we were having a blast in his rehearsal studio. I don't get to visit Wisconsin that much, so when I do and we jam... I like to record it.

Enjoy!

Re: When the guitar player tries drums...

Haha! What fun!

In one of my early bands - we used to 'swap instruments' after setup and before we started the proper soundcheck.  I used to jump on the drums to have a bash for a few minutes.  I'm utterly crap at drums, and know only one beat.

The thing is - our drummer was left handed, and had his drums set up in a left handed manner.  To this day, I absolutely CANNOT play a right handed set when I sit behind them.  I think my 'drumming brain' has been programmed the lefty way and I just cannot 'get it' at all on a right handed set... smile

AHA! Welcome to (a smidgen of) the world of the lefty! It is that way for me too, and in the days of my youth when I was told what it meant to be a man but couldn't afford a drum "set" (we called them sets, not kits, back then) of my own, I always got behind somebody else's righty set and was often pitiful, really for the most part...It's hard enough to do it the way your drumming brain IS programmed, let alone attempting to go against that ingrained behavior.

Nick, what's going on,you got a mosquito infestation going up there at Tom's place???  What you swatting at brother?! C'mon, when playing ZZ, do like I recall Frank Beard saying in an old article how he like to pound the drums so hard as he just just played like he was beating on the first girl who ever gave him crabs!!! lol Funny, and I kid you sorely and apologize.  Honestly, you know where you stand, and more honestly, a really nice effort on your part.  That is how it starts out, but you have the motions down, and the timing, ow comes the hardest part ....what it is ALL about...the dynamics.  Keep hittin' them and having a blast.  Hey to Tom too! Rock ON Brothers!  Did I miss videos of the two of you on your respective guitars on my Email updates???
