Topic: I wish a.k.a. Regrets

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9Ujm4HEXGc
After watching the above video, I realized that I wish I had continued my tenor sax lessons. This got me to thinking about other "regrets". I wish I had kept up with the guitar. I wish I hadn't sold my old Land Cruiser or Porsche. I wish I had stayed in the military (I'd be retired now with an extra monthly check. For life!). I wish I had taken advantage of the opportunity to go to a Bell & Howell computing college at the beginning of the boom (1977). And last but not least, I wish I hadn't let Mary get away (a high school sweetheart). Anyone else have regrets that they don't mind sharing?

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

guido, not much i do care to tell about but regrets galore. i think the topic should be added in verse to The Meaning of the Blues

heck i just thought of six or more Joe related regrets but the only one I will talk about right now is I regret not going to the Bad Co. show at Merriweather. i wanted to but it was toooo last minute then later i found Joe and discovered he opened for them that night.

I now keep thinking of many Joe related ones too, one is i regret not telling my bonabuddy David in NY to not lose touch if he stopped coming here. David where are you? MYHY

anyhoo the subject of regret usually leads me to the conundrum of fate too. i do think that life offers many opportunities to have a second chance in relation to some regrets. yu can't take back time but you can make amends IMO

Very wise you are Jane

Yeah. I've got a couple of those also, but then I wouldn't have my beautiful kids.

...regrets only turn to bitterness if you do not learn from them and move on... easier said than done sometimes i know... but Patty has the right idea!

Amen to that verse and Pete's right about bitterness rearing its ugly head.  I live each day as it comes and thus have few regrets over meaningful things.  I do wish I'd have stayed with the guitar lessons eons ago.  I've been listening to a Canadian crooner of late named Johnny Reid.  He has a unique voice reminiscent of a young Rod Stewart and this song touches on this subject.  Good song.

Regrets? Nope, I dance on home plate everyday and thank God for the people that have blessed my life some of which, reside right here. smile

Re: I wish a.k.a. Regrets

Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention... (with all due apologies to the Chairman of the Board)  smile

Here's one for you that I don't often share. I grew up with Viet Nam as the backdrop to my childhood, as many of us did here. It was on the news every night, and I had friends at school whose older brothers came home in a box. The sound of distant gunfire was a daily soundtrack of my youth, as Marine recruits trained at the nearby rifle range military camp.

Not keen on the idea of being drafted, I managed an appointment to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, thanks to my Grandfather a retired Captain, my uncle a Commander, and I believe Senator Warren Magneson. The draft ended the year I graduated from high school, and I turned down Annapolis. This I still regret. I was 18 years old with an attitude, and I was also averse to the concept of calling anyone, "Sir." Seems pretty stupid now, and if I had the chance to do it over again...

My thanks and deep respect to all who served in Nam (and other conflicts).

Re: I wish a.k.a. Regrets

I am a would-be big shot unable to manage my own life.  I know remorse is a waste of spirit, yet I suffer a few regrets.  In a state of misguided egomania & adolescent defiance I suffer a few regrets when they rear up out of forgotten regions of my mind because I have not forgiven myself.  I see the big picture.  Even after being in a coma for 5 days last year.

So I serve.  "Let the greatest among you serve the least"  and I make amends.  It's humbling and it allows a state of grace, by standing naked before the Great Spirit.  So if I pass muster there and am forgiven, how arrogant I must be to not forgive myself?

I'm not talking about just being an a$$, I yam what I yam.  When I was younger I did some damage to people that didn't deserve it.  I have amended all I remember, so I'm free today.

Whew ... deep waters ... the majority of the time I focus on blessings (and I have many!) ...  still, if I'd known exactly when my mother was going to die, I would have taken off work (#&$% the job!) the last 2 weeks of her life and spent every moment with her instead of just the last day ...

Re: I wish a.k.a. Regrets

When I started this thread, it wasn't meant to be "deep". The whole point was that I was watching that video and just wished I had kept up with the sax. I'm certainly not bemoaning my life in any way. I LOVE my life! There are just times when you're reminded of things from your past that make you think a little. So all in all, I'd be driving my 911 with a sax in the boot, a guitar in the back seat and Mary sitting next to me on our way to a Joe B concert. Oh yeah the Land Cruiser's in the garage.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?
