Topic: EVM12L

So I took the plunge and ordered a new cab from zilla cabs and a EVM12L to go with it. It's a 2 x12 size but with a 1 x12 baffle. Looks great with my '89 2553 sitting on top. Hopefully I'll get the speaker in the next day or 2 and get it installed. I'll report back when I do. My wife is expecting our second and is 8 days late so it may be a while before I get back.

hey fuzzblues let me know as soon as you can because im thinking of ordering the zilla cab and 2 evm12ls i need to know if they are worth the money and that they are better than the v30s ??  thanks and good luck with the next nipper!!! big_smile

Re: EVM12L

Steve,

I'e had the zilla for a week or so now, just no speaker in there yet. The cab is very well put together nice and solid and the finishing spot on. I now have a nice oversized 1x12 for my '89 2553 that matches perfectly. I can always order another baffle cut for 2x12 or make one myself if i wanted. I got one with the 3 piece back so i can have open, closed or partially closed back. Can't wait to get the speaker in there.

Re: EVM12L

I'm getting a vertical Forte cabinet with two EVM12L black labels in them. Will report when it comes in (late may)

Re: EVM12L

I've got everything hooked up now and all I can is it sounds fantastic. My rig is a s follows.

PRS DGT/Parts o casters (strat and tele)/Tokai Love Rock

Cry baby - hendrix fuzz - Boss TR-2 - Pork Loin - Tube Screamer TS808 - Fulltone Deja Vibe - Blackstar HT Drive - Boss DD3 - Boss Tuner

Marshall 2553 from 1989 Boss RV-5 in the loop always on from a smidge of reverb

2 x12 modern cab from zilla cabs with 1 x 12 baffle loaded with an 8 ohm EVM12L

All I can say is I was happy with the tone before now with the new cab the EVM tightens everything up and keeps the low end nice and tight.

I'm thinking of getting a remote loopy from the gig rig so I can have the DD3 and RV5 in the loop and switch between them so that the reverb goes off when the delay is on.

Now as long as I can stay away from the magazine reviews and the net I can see myself having this rig for a long time.

Re: EVM12L

So how does it's really sound compared to a v30 etc what's the selling point for the ev12ls ? cool

EVM have the selling poin right on the back, world,s best guitar speaker i think it says. Only Kidding.

Like I said the EVM keeps everything nice and tight and doesn;t let the bottom end wander.

While the EVM's can be just as "chimey" as a V30, the EVM out-performs the V30 in terms of clean tones and low-end. V30 you can get natural breakup, but I don't believe any natural breakup is possible with the EVM.

I really don't like flubby low end, and I dig lots of headroom, that's why I went with EVM. If I wan't breakup, I'll step on a pedal.  cool

From a physical perspective, I think the EVM's are built better and more heavy duty than a celestion. There's more holes to screw into the cab. The speaker is heavier overall, and the brackets look like they could support a small car if you used them for mag wheels...where V30's look like hubcaps. The magnets seem much larger too than the V30.

The final selling point for me is that they'll take anything you can put through them, at any volume, and they'll last ages.
