It has some great things about it, but for me it also has some things I don't care for.  Love the groove.  But I don't care for Joe singing the song. His vocals don't fit for me.  I also don't care for the keyboard player's solo's.

I'm different from most here, I come from a different side of funk.

I prefer the original, because I love the original song.

Thanks for all the videos and all you do.

It's not bad, I just prefer his other stuff.

For me this is okay stuff. This group is a bit too lightweight funk for my style.  I prefer all his other projects but its nice to see this once in while.

I know what you mean.  This is more on the jazzy casual side of funk and blues, no big fat chunky horns to make it nasty so to speak.  But to me, these guys were just exercising their chops, and they are all in great shape, so to speak.  Considering you got them figuring out what key and arrangements on the spot, I was taken in just fine thank you.  At moments I felt a great little Little Feat cruising along to their stuff vibe.  No Tower of Power horns accompaniment to make it thick like Spanish Moon, but Mike Merritt's bass comes through as it was really sounding on NONE of the videos I've seen so far.  I sometimes had a hard time seeing him, it was so dark, and he was in the back making faces, BUTT, his bass lines were felt everywhere in the place, and never too harshly!!!  There was an earthquake in Long Beach hours before the show, I think it was Mike restring his bass at home!!!

Thank you for some more insight into the show Rocket.  It's more of a jazzy side of funk.  And like you said they are exercising their chops.

I just prefer my funk a little differently.

If you hook up your computer audio output to a proper audio system and crank it up, you'll find there is plenty of Mike's bass present in my vids. Aint no woofers in my computer either.  lol

I don't care much for the original Tracy Chapman version, but I do like Joe's.  And I agree with you, the groove on this live version is pretty slick.

I have a quite proper audio system my friend...it is not close to the same, even with equalization and compression...
It is good, just not the same as the small room punchy & pinchy feel it feeling he had going on.  I am not jabbing your video, Rick, they are fantastic!  Just spouting my perception of truth as I saw and heard, and now hear, though I see as if I am still there! Caprice?!  wink

Got it. I just played several off the uploads, there is some difference between the raw stuff on my pc and the yt mp3 playback. My system is nothing special. Yamaha 250w 5 way with 75w sub. Considering the size of the camera, not too bad. How did your audio capture go?

Re: Joe in a small club!

I have not had a chance to watch ANY of these new Spud vids yet, and I still don't have time right now either (gotta hit the shower soon, as a friend is coming over to watch movies today).  But I just want to say in advance, a BIG THANK YOU to all the videographers, since I absolutely LOVE this stuff and there was no way I could make it 3,000 miles to the show!  tongue

Question:  Were there any strictly AUDIO tapers there?  As of this morning I hadn't seen anything pop up on any of the main torrent trackers.  In hindsight, I probably could've pulled some strings with some tapers I know who know tapers out there.  Would be awesome to synch up some pro audio to these vids, and/or just have good quality CDs.

Am I the only person who has audible-visible signs reminiscent of Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, and Stephen Stills' on Super Session at times listening to Rock Candy Funk Party w/ Joe Bonamassa???!!!  neutral

Just pretending, Brack....ok!
Hi Candy, welcome. Are you at Rivercat's house? That is only meant in a light, joking manner! You pretty much said exactly, mockingbird style, what she said. Wait, you said exactly what she said! Are you a muppet?  hmm  big_smile It doesn't matter, the original is an amazing song that I am totally in agreement about loving it...one of those very first listen smacked me hard songs. You know where I first heard it? I am not kidding, in a grocery store! I stopped and stood under the speaker for the entire duration, not moving to getting food, just bopping and smiling uncaringly about others and their goings about (and some raised eyebrows-didn't faze me though). The beautiful groove is still intact here, and no apologies from me, I love Joe's singing on the recording and at this club in person ( maybe a cat 's whisker of reverb on his voice would give it the little boost in liveliness, the room sound is quite dead for better or worse, i.e. what you play or sing with or without modest effects is what you get but, in my opinion, NO lack of soulful delivery at all )! I love it. These are meant to be intimate, and it comes across wonderfully so, even on these fan videos, for me. But thanks for sharing your thoughts! I do understand where you are coming from, except for the exact repetition wordings. It's ok though! Remember, exercising chops (which is what I am doing now too) and "playing" playing a little!  smile
